Jenny Sanford: I Learned Of Affair In Jan.

By
CBSNews
(AP)  South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford says she discovered her husband's affair in January when she found a letter to the governor from his mistress.

Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press on Friday she told him to end the affair and was shocked this week when she found out he'd gone to Argentina to see his mistress. She says she believed Gov. Mark Sanford had gone somewhere to work on writing a book.

Jenny Sanford says she stayed with her husband while their four sons were attending their private school in Columbia. She waited until the school year ended to leave him for their coastal home on Sullivans Island.

She wept as she displayed her boys' stellar report cards and said she most worries about how they're being affected by the scandal. Jenny Sanford says she plans to take them out of the state for the weekend.

Meanwhile, Sanford was back at work today, telling his state agency chiefs that he's sorry for keeping them in the dark when he went to see Argentina to see his mistress.

The Republican on Friday held his typical public meeting with the agency chiefs, but started with apologies and likening his confession and future to the biblical plight of King David.

Sanford says King David fell mightily but picked up the pieces and built from there.

Sanford made specific apologizes to the head of agencies that handle his security and economic development trips, saying he put those leaders in awkward spots.

He dismissed his security detail before flying to Argentina last week and he also took a trip with Commerce Department officials to South America and saw his mistress.

tolduso-you forgot spitzer and edwards in your mix. You know, it would be really difficult to find anyone, especially a politician that hasn't messed up. I mean, face it, in today's world few marriages last forever.
But you lemmings, slam Republicans when the mess up and do nothing but make excuses for your louses. Don't give me "your supposedly to party of values", yep, we try, and like humans mess up. Your party on the other tout what values?? You people call us judgmental when you are the party of the most intolerance.
Should this jerk step down, yep. Mostly because of his stupidity. Bubba at least had hill to watch his back while his front was being serviced.

This story on a governor is getting much more press than the spitzer debacle of a year ago. I do remember having to go down to the end of the initial story to find that he was a democrat. Funny, isn't it.
After the initial story the rest were about his hooker and very little about him. I understand he's making a comeback. YOu libs are soooooo forgiving as well as forgetful. Here spitzer was, THE CRUSADER!! The guy who handed down harsher laws to johns. The governor that was going to clean up NY politics.
Face it lemmings, they are all louts.
\Now,let's hear the apologies. GO!

AWOL from job for a week to visit mistress might get working/middle class folks fired, but the privileged class does not live by the same rules (moral or professional) that they impose on their hirelings.

I don't understand all this mean spirited sniping at the Governor. He has apologized and God has forgiven him. Why can't you? Look at from another angle; he would make a fine President because when he pulls another disappearing act while being the next POTUS, he will remember to take along with him a cell phone and he will remember to make up a real good story where he will be. "I was at a very important meeting at Roswell, NM., and some how I can't account for five days, I remember bright lights and this voice said, Mark you must go back"

He judged Clinton and voted to impeach him and said he was not fit due to his dishonesty. to be a cheater is automatically to be a liar--so the shoe fits him too--now he should kick himself in the arse with it and like he wanted Clinton to resign--he should do so. The Republicans opened the door to this by persecuting Clinton for cheating, too bad they forgot the problem with their own little members when they changed the rules for the club.

The Governor apologized but an apology is not enough, you also have to do penance and atone, go read your Bible it's obvious you haven't.

Being Governor allowed Sanford to cheat with this woman. It's not like she was the girl next door. Repeatedly seeing her from where he lived was difficult and expensive, not something that any regular working stiff would be able to afford to do. Sanford's political life gave him the money with the ability to just walk off and leave his staff to do his work for him, and he misused the benefits of that career, and does not deserve to have it any longer. That is the most important reason why he should resign, but there are others.

A second reason to resign now is that Mark will be pushed out of that career soon enough, now that he's tainted, the next guy in line will be elected. If he fights resignation he is essentially telling his wife Jenny that continuing to have this thing which is allowing him to fly to Argentina and b o f f his lover, is more important than his marriage. Resigning now would mean a lot to Jenny as it would give her some concrete evidence that Mark is trying to put the marriage first. However if he waits, then after he's not re-elected, and is out of a job, Jenny will never have that concrete evidence that Mark has changed, and if they stay together she will wonder the rest of her life if he really did think marriage came first.

She's already very rich. Jenny is the one with the money and connections, not SAnford. She paid to put him through school and financed his campaigns, her family are the ones that own Skil power tools--he is the poor dude who she helped to lift up and this is the thanks he gave her. She does not need Sawyer's change, no doubt if she divorces, she will have to be the one to pay spousal maintenance not him.

He should resign, because he's a liar, several times over.

First of all, his wife found a letter from his mistress?

Liar.

Then, she says,"break it off", and he continues to see her?

Liar.

And then, he tells his wife he's going off to work on a book, on Father's day weekend? He tells his staff he's taking a hike on the Apalachin trail?

Liar.

Then he flies off to Argentina, to,"cry for 5 days"?

Liar, you KNOW he wadn't cryin, YO!

(less the ***** got it goin like dat?)

All the calls for him to resign.

Hmmmm, interesting.

No one calls for Franks to resign after his lover was running a brothel out of their DC love nest.

No one calls for Rangel or Murtha to resign even though they are into corruption up to their ears.

They tried to impeach Clinton and he saw more women than a gynecologist and he never resigned.

Hell, Teddy Kennedy killed a girl and Byrd was a leader of the KKK and no one really wants them to resign.

Half the politicians in this country screw around on their spouses and it's only the Republican ones who need to resign.

I guess its not the same. How can you be a hypocrite when you have no morals, you know ... like most Democrats.

(toe tap)

"Can I help you?"

(Hi, my name is Larry)...

Post the corruption you speak of, in regard to Rangel and Murtha. Vague references are dumb.

Clinton saw,"more women than a gyno"?

Speculation, at best.

"Kennedy killed a girl"?

Was he tried?

More speculation.

And, the bottom line is...The Republican party keeps,"claiming", to own family values. The Dems don't, NOBODY does, except the GOP.

And yet, they have the most members,(giggle), who stray from the platform of,"faith", and,"morality"...

The Moral Majority are human?

Say it ain't so!!!

(giggle)...

I think JFK always kept his security guards with him. It was probably just Secret Service rules.

JFK's security wasn't in the closet when he was boffing Marilyn Monroe. Um, maybe that was RFK. No, maybe it was teddy. No, couldn't have been teddy cause Marilyn died of a drug OD, not drowning. Gosh, it's hard to keep them straight.

This is just one facet of this overall diamond. If she knew since January, why wasn't this fixed since then? Real men do not look for the 20% if the 80% is doing all they are supposed to be doing. I am not placing blame, just want to give you food for thought. As far as the King David reference, I didn't know he had anyone killed to be with this woman.... maybe I missed that part. He is hardly the great King David.

Yeah, you are placing blame. If a man wants to cheat, it is not the woman's fault,it is the mans--people cheat for a variety of reasons, but if it is for the sheer excitement of another person or to recapture lost youth--it is not the other persons fault--the fault lies within--people are not responsible for the actions of others--they are only responsible for the choices they make due to those actions. You were placing blame as most Christians are taught to do--but if it is anyone's fault, it is the person who thought so little of their marriage, their office and their vows that they broke those vows instead of first divorcing and doing things in an honorable way. The fault as usual of a man and his preoccupation with his genitals to the exclusion of everything else including his family and job. typical.
