What Happens To Jackson's Kids?

"Long Battle" Predicted, Over Them, And Jackson's Money

The future of Michael Jackson's three children is now uncertain. The children are currently in the care of Jackson's mother. E.T.'s Kevin Frazier reports.

Jackson was in London to work on recording a song to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims. The visit to Britain was believed to be his first since his acquittal in June of child molestation charges.

(CBS)  A big question in the wake of Michael Jackson's sudden death is what happens now with his three children.

Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., known as Prince -- Jackson's first son, was born in 1997. Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, his daughter, was born in 1998. And Prince Michael Jackson II, known as Blanket, a second son, was born in 2002. Blanket is the child Jackson held over a balcony in an infamous baby-dangling incident.

Longtime Jackson busines associate Ken Ehrlich, who was with Jackson the night before he died, told Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez Friday, "It was pretty amazing to watch (Jackson) with them because you could see the love both ways. That's what struck me (Thursday, after word of Jackson's death spread) -- once you got through some of the other stuff. It's about the kids."

Their ages, and Jackson's possible fortune, could intensify the custody question, Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frasier observed on The Early Show Friday.

Jackson family attorney Brian Oxman says the children "are with the nanny. They're being cared for. Mrs. Jackson (Katherine, their grandmother) loves them. She takes care of them."

Jakcson's death "will be probably the start of a long battle," Oxman told Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith. " ... We will have to see how that plays out in a court of law. I suspect that the death of Michael Jackson is only the beginning of the legal battles over not only his property, but also his children."

Frazier pointed out that Debbie Rowe, Jackson's second wife and mother of the two oldest, is clearly a candidate. She and Jakcson divorced in 1999.

"I don't talk about being a parent," Rowe remarked to ET in 2004, when she let the show into her home. Because of a reported confidentiality agreement at the time, she didn't talk about the kids or about Jackson.

"My family it's off limits to everyone," Rowe continued.

In 2005, Rowe battled Jackson over custody and eventually was allowed shared custody of the children.

But back in 2004, it was, as Frazier put it, "obvious she was a woman living in some kind of fear."

"My big fears, I can't talk about, and I wouldn't," she said. "And my biggest fear is that those fears happen."

As Frazier's report aired on The Early Show Friday, Rowe hadn't issued any statement about Jackson's death or the situation with the children.

Frazier said, "The kids are in line to inherit (Jackson's apparent fortune), so it will be very interesting to see if the birth mothers ultimately get custody and control."

Oxman told Smioth Friday he "worked on the case involving Debbie and Michael and the divorce. I've handled six divorces in this family. I always liked Debbie Rowe. And it is my experience in a court of law that, when one of the parties passes away, there's always a claim of a natural parent.
"So, whatever the contracts were and whatever the agreements were, there is always the prospect of legal proceedings, and how successful the outcome, boy, oh, boy, it is your guess and my guess. We just don't know, and we'll have to watch it play out as it does all by itself."

Who should have custody of Michael Jackson's eldest two children?
 Debbie Rowe
 Katherine Jackson
 Neither
 Both, with shared custody

Kids go to the surviving mother (of the Kids). Two are hers, there is no legal reason to not let her take the third kid.

Grandparents have absolutely no legal standing in this kind of custody case.

Thank goodness they don't the nanny would make a better Guardian. Debbie Rowe does have priority unless she doesn?t want them or it can be proven she would be unfit. We don?t know the whole story but I think she was intimidated (and paid off) to stay out of their lives, who knows what these children have been through living with Michael.

What they have "been through living with Michael", andie52, is the care and love of a devoted father. Those who knew this family intimately have said that the children had tremendous love for their father. If/when a will is presented, Michael's wishes for their care will be revealed.

What makes you think he lied? I don't know that I recall him saying that he got her pregnant. We just know that she was pregnant and he said they were his kids. And that could be because he was adopting them. If he adopted them, they are his kids.

You are right! If he adopted them they are his kids! However, if he adopted them why not just say so?

I should have put that in the past tense and said "why didn't he say so?"

What I'm trying to understand is, WHY did he have to? It was nobodies business but his. He owed no one an explanation. I don't understand what the big deal is.

bonjour

I also remember seeing the oldest boy from the back once a couple of years ago and his skin looked very light and his hair was straight and blonde and not at all curly or coarse.

What does it matter? Who cares?

I've saw them without their masks and veils, too, once but the pictures weren't very close and weren't very clear.

The ones I saw were quite close and very clear.

And they looked like they could have been fairly recent. The oldest boy is 12 and the girl is 11, I think. They looked to be that age.

I wonder if there's ever been any DNA or paternity tests done on the kids? From what few pictures I've seen of them, those kids don't show one drop of African American or Black blood to me!

And tell me something, what does it matter if they carry his DNA or not? Maybe he adopted them from Debbie Rowe? Who cares?

I think that's why they've been kept hidden from view and forced to wear masks and veils whenever they were in public. I think Jackson knew that the world would know the truth about them if their faces were shown. It will be interesting to see if his children are finally allowed to come out from behind the masks and the veils for his funeral.

I hate to burst your bubble, but the kids HAVE been out without their masks and veils. I was watching a program, and it showed them with Michael, without anything covering their faces. And I'm quite sure that wasn't the only time.

You're funny. One of the mothers is white. The other one could be too. The children can therefore look white or black.

Erasmus111 I've seen many bi-racial people and no matter how light skinned they are and no matter what their hair and eye color is, if you look at them closely enough there is always some black characteristics. For instance there is some bi-racial children in my neighborhood. Their mother is a blonde headed, blue eyed, very light skinned white woman just like Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe is. Their father is a black man. Anyone who sees those children knows immediately that they are bi-racial without knowing who they are and without speaking to them. They are not as dark as their father but they are not as light as their mother either. Their father's racial characteristics are very evident in them. Also actress Vanessa Williams and singer Beyonce are both bi-racial. They are both light skinned and they both have brown hair, not black, and Vanessa's eyes are blue, but they still have certain characteristics of the black race! For instance the shape of their eyes and the stiffness or coarseness of their hair. From what I've seen the Jackson children have none of these characteristics! I think that's why they've been kept hidden from view and forced to wear masks and veils whenever they were in public. I think Jackson knew that the world would know the truth about them if their faces were shown. It will be interesting to see if his children are finally allowed to come out from behind the masks and the veils for his funeral.

Michael Jackson children belong with their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who love them and not with mothers who sold their parental rigths.

Where was it proven that Jackson molested the kids...court of law???? NOPE! Think of the good things and hate him for the bad, but the fact remains he was a talent, miss him for that if nothing else.

I have to think that hopefully they will be going to a better place. Probably need to stay away from the rest of the Jackson clan who are as screwed up as he was.

Maybe they should go to the biological mothers? Although who knows what shape they are in... Im sure lawyers are sharpening their knives as we speak.
