Gina Smith said the newspaper had gradually received allegations of the governor's infidelity, but didn't get the smoking gun - an admission - until their encounter at the airport.
Smith described Sanford in three words to CBS' The Early Show Thursday: "Sad, dejected, frustrated."
At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Sanford told the media he had been having an affair with a woman in Argentina. Smith's newspaper, The State, later released e-mails sent between the governor and his South American lover.

But only Republicans have a list like you can find at www.armchairsubversive.com This list of Republicans doing everything from raping their children to adopting and raping infant boy babies is singular. This list of names came out in 2003 and until now--absolutely no COMPARABLE DEMOCRAT match can be found. No truer words indeed. The GOP is full of hypocrites to the point that people realize a person is a Republican, they already expect corruption, lies and evil--hidden behind the wire hanger halos. The only ones surprised by revelations of sexual or other hypocrisy are the REpublicans. That is because they lie to themselves as well as to the rest of us. The remaining Independents, Dems and nonvoters are NOT Surprised. Hypocrisy of an exponential order and the Republican party go hand in hand--be it ethical stealing, lies about bridges to no where or sexual proclivities.
- I can start out by saying that Kennedy and the story you speak of was in all the papers in the open. Did you know that Bush's wife killed her best friend in an accendent but you never read about it did you. You hollier than thou bible thumpers don't want a good persons tarnished if she is a conservative Republican but you are willing to lie about a man who was investigated and make up stuff because YOU HAVE NO PROFF BECAUSE THERE IS NONE.
Now go sit down and cry because your hero is dead meat.

- Another GOPocrit. Once again the party of "family values" shows where its real focus is. Instead of spending its time pontificating on the evils of abortion, stem cell research and gay marraige, perhaps the REPUBLICAN'T Party would be better served keeping their flies zipped up. "Defense of Marraige Act"- that's a laugh.

So this guy broke down and admitted to something before he was told what he was confessing to.
Reminds me of when I was about 7 years old. My dad called me into his room and asked, "do you have something you want to confess to?" I spewed-out something. My dad says, "That's two, want to confess to something else?" I responded this time with "No thanks dad."
But then I was only about 7 years old and got caught. - Reply to this comment
