(AP)  The government says the number of people filing first-time claims for jobless benefits increased last week, partly due to layoffs related to the end of the school year.

The Labor Department says new jobless claims rose by 15,000 to a seasonally adjusted 627,000. Economists expected a drop to 600,000 claims, according to Thomson Reuters.

A department analyst says that states reported more claims than expected from teachers, cafeteria workers and other school employees.

America has been on a boom and bust rollercoaster since the great depression. Even our Presidential elections follow it. The American people support it, even vote to continue it. When the people begin to see the edges of a bust coming they vote Democrat because the Democrats are good with social programs to help them through the tough times. When the people see the bubble starting to expand they vote Republican because the Republicans are good at supporting corporate growth. There cannot be partisan blame for this cycle because it takes both sides for it to continue.

I agree that it's stupid to be partisan but this is a hardly a 'business cycle', this is the absolute breakdown crisis of the entire global financial system.

Our 'real economy' was replaced by a phony, fraudalent virtual economy compsed of 1.4 quadrillion in worthless derivatives and credit-default swaps.

This economy will NOT, let me repeate more forcefully , WILL NOT RECOVER, unless Lyndon Larouche replaces Larry Summers.

They need to stop looking through their rose colored glasses and stop trying to make every slight fluxuation seem like the golden road out of this mess and face the fact that we are in a RECESSION headed for a DEPRESSION. The average american can see this already and they are not buying into the hype, so stop trying to sell it.

The government says that first-time unemployment claims rose last week thanks to layoffs of teachers for summer vacation!

We've all forgotten about unemployment thanks to all the political babbling about health care, which, of course, was the plan all along.

Not that health care needs fixing, BAD, but if you expect the economy to turn around, you need jobs, jobs, JOBS!!!!!

HAIL OBAMA????

"Jobless Claims Unexpectedly Inch Higher"

The only people that weren't expecting this are d-bag news agencies that thought that falling new jobless claims was a good thing. falling jobless claims can also mean there are no more jobs left to lose.

Ooops! Lost another wheel off the Obama express.

"A department analyst says that states reported more claims than expected from teachers, cafeteria workers and other school employees."

Interestingly - Obama specifically touted adding funds to our educational system - a top priority of his now aging and ineffective 'stimulus' program.
