Moore Remembers Ed McMahon

(CBS)  Ed McMahon has reportedly died at the age of 86.

On The Early Show Tuesday, Mary Tyler Moore discussed knowing McMahon.

"He will be missed," Moore said. "...I was such an admirer, am still, of course, an admirer of Ed McMahon."

The man known for hosting "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson and "Star Search," as well as being the face of Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes died in Los Angeles, according to reports citing McMahon's spokesman.

"He made such an impact on television," Moore told Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.

CBS News correspondent Sandra Hughes reported on The Early Show that McMahon recently celebrated 60 years in television, at this year's Emmy awards.

Early Show guest anchor Lara Spencer who interviewed McMahon and Moore at this year's Emmy's asked Moore what she remembers about him.

Moore said, despite McMahon's difficulties in recent years as he faced home foreclosure and breaking his neck, what always came through in his interviews was his kindness.

Moore added McMahon was "wonderful at what he did."

Moore, who appeared on "The Tonight Show" herself, said McMahon, who played straight man to Johnny Carson's antics, could always hold his own.

Moore said, "Boy, did he not come up with a bunch of good laughs himself."
