(CBS)  As Iran cracks down on dissidents, reports surfaced that former Foreign Minister Ebrahim Yazdi was taken by plainclothes authorities from a hospital room and is being held in an unknown location.

According to Yazdi's granddaughter, his involvement in Iran's opposition movement led to his disappearance.

"I have absolutely no doubt that's the reason why they kidnapped him," Atefeh Yazdi told CBS' The Early Show from her home in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania Thursday.

Yazdi's family said he was in an intensive care unit being treated for cancer and are concerned about his medical condition.
