(AP)  The Boston Newspaper Guild says it is hopeful after a meeting with managers at The Boston Globe and the National Labor Relations Board.

Dan Totten, president of the Guild, said in a statement released early Tuesday that talks would resume later in the day.

Globe spokesman Robert Powers called the talks "substantive" but said an agreement had not yet been reached.

The New York Times Co. imposed a 23 percent pay cut after the Guild narrowly rejected a new contract with $10 million in annual wage and benefit concessions last week. The Guild then filed an unfair labor complaint with the labor board.

The Times Co. says it needs $20 million in annual savings from Globe unions to keep the paper open.
