Interactive Abortion Debate It's one of the most hotly debated political and social issues in America. Review a history of that debate since the historic Roe v. Wade decision.
Scott Roeder called The Associated Press on Thursday from the Sedgwick County Jail and disputed characterizations in the media of him as being anti-government, saying he is "anti-corrupt government."
"I haven't been convicted of anything, and I am being treated as a criminal," he said in a telephone conversation that lasted about three minutes.
When asked by the AP to discuss the Tiller shooting, Roeder, 51, of Kansas City, Mo., refused to comment, saying he would talk about that later.
Roeder is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing Tiller with a single gunshot as the doctor handed out programs Sunday while ushering at the Lutheran church he attended. Roeder also is accused of assaulting two witnesses before leaving the church and driving away.
Roeder was arrested a few hours later, near the town of Gardner, about 170 miles northeast of Wichita.
He said he has made it through the first several days of his incarceration but is concerned about the media attention his family, particularly his elderly mother, has been getting.
"I appreciate your prayers," he said.

- Yeah I am against late term abortion. You hear the one about the baby being born alive in the abortion chamber and having its umbilical cord cut and left to bleed to death in the trash? That happened two months ago. Obama is for that. Then you wonder why someone got pissed and blew someones head off. Your the one thats delusional. I don't know why someone wants an abortion room job. You deal with death every day. I would think theres alot of burn out. Finally, the bible is not against abortion. The bible states clearly that the soul doesnt enter the body til the baby takes his first breath. Abortion is a humanist issue not a religious one. Strangely the bible isnt against gambling too and I think thats one the of big sins. Thanks for reading.

- My oh my, is it life you anti-abortionists are so animate about? The great book says "thou shalt not kill?" Then why Iraq? Why the doctor? You are a bunch of HYPOCRITES who would not know the first thing about leading by example. No Christian has any right to take life-not from an unborn child nor from an aged doctor. If he/she does the verdict rings clear as a crystal, they are not Christians!!! And that by your own definition!

- This moron Roeder has six brain cells. Geez, he was caught practically red-handed, and he is being treated like a criminal by the media! Don't worry; Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck will come to your rescue! And no one wants to disturb your mother; they pity her. I am sure she is wishing she used contraceptives before you were born!

- If these anti-abortion people don't want abortions they don't have to have one. No one is making them have one. On the other hand, these anti-abortion folk don't have the right to act like the Taliban and force their narrow religious doctrine upon the rest of us. And assassinating Dr, Tiller for engaging in his lawful work is no different morally than when the Taliban threw acid in the faces of Afghan schoolgirls for wanting an education. They are both cases of religious extremism resulting in terrorist acts. All religious fanatics are capable of murderous acts of terrorism ... Christians are not an exception.
The United States is not a Christian Nation, so religious law shouldn't be imposed on the American people by fanatics willing to utilize terrorism to get their way.
Rest in peace Dr, Tiller, you were a good American. - Reply to this comment
- consider the man charged with murder when he assaults a pregnant woman who subsequently miscarries. He's arrested, charged, incarcerated, and likely found guilty of murder. A woman decides to abort her child and no one is arrested, no one goes to jail, in short, the woman's actions remove the rights considered inherent in the first case from the child entirely. Something is really wrong about that."---Posted by nofoolling at 10:05 PM : Jun 4, 2009
There is no arguing with the inherent logic of 'this' statement!!!! I did not take a stand on either side, I merely said "Get off the fence on on side or the other with this Farce of a law" - Reply to this comment

- OK, Please somebody explain this to me, as I am a little confused by the conservative logic:
1. Absolutely NO sex education in the schools. The kids should learn about this at home. And if their parents don?t teach them, well, it?s not my problem.
2. Absolutely NO free contraceptives. That will encourage sex. If teenagers don?t have access to contraceptives, they will not have sex.
3. Absolutely NO abortions, because MY religion states that life starts at conception. Well, unless of course you got pregnant through rape or incest, and then that life doesn?t count as much. Because, really, we don?t want to punish (with an unwanted pregnancy) those women who are forced to have sex, only those who willingly have sex.
4. Absolutely NO late-term abortions. And if you find out in the fifth month, that the wanted child you are carrying has no brain, and will not live more than 12 hours after birth, you must carry it to term. And if you don?t, we will intimidate or kill any doctor who tries to help you end the pregnancy.
5. Once we completely get our way, and every child is born that is conceived, we absolutely will not pay for any social services for that child. Because we are Republicans, and we don?t believe in government playing large roles in our lives. - Reply to this comment
