Legos: Timeless Building Blocks

(CBS)  Legos have played a part of our childhood as the building blocks of our youth, and now as we grow older, they are continuing to change with the times.

Early Show anchors Harry Smith,Maggie Rodriguez and Julie Chen and Early Show's weather anchor and features reporter, Dave Price took a walk down memory lane and discussed the impact of Legos as well as the new series of architectural Legos.

The line of architectural Legos consists of six buildings, including two of Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous and recognizable buildings, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and "Fallingwater," the iconic waterfall house outside Pittsburgh, Pa.

The new series coincides with the Solomon R. Guggenheim's current exhibition on Frank Lloyd Wright, "Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward," and marks the 50th anniversary of the museum.

"Legos are maybe the most important toy in the universe," said Smith. "They've been in a little trouble over the past couple of years, people felt like they were losing their way, so there's a whole new series of Legos coming out, architecture Legos."

"That's terrific," said Price.

"It's the 50th anniversary of the building of the Guggenheim up the street here on Fifth Avenue," Smith said. "So right now at the Guggenheim, there's this giant Frank Lloyd Wright retrospective. Now you can get a Lego of the Guggenheim Museum. The building itself has been designated a work of art."
