"Pulling Out" Rivals Condoms, Study Says

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  Ask most sexually active people today about the pullout method as an effective form of contraception and you're likely to induce eye-rolling and snickers.

But withdrawal before ejaculation during intercourse is more than just "better than nothing," a new study claims, noting that it is nearly as effective at preventing pregnancy as condoms.

The study, titled "Better than nothing or savvy risk reduction practice? The importance of withdrawal," appears in the June edition of the journal Contraception.

The authors find:

"If the male partner withdraws before ejaculation every time a couple has vaginal intercourse, about 4% of couples will become pregnant over the course of a year. However, more realistic estimates of typical use indicate that about 18% of couples will become pregnant in a year using withdrawal. These rates are only slightly less effective than male condoms, which have perfect- and typical-use failure rates of 2% and 17%, respectively."

I'm sorry, but in this age and they way people are I'm not to thrilled about putting my "member" into a woman who's had several other "members" in her before me, and if I do I'm using a condom or plastic wrap or zip-lock baggie or trash bag, anything to protect me.Because I don't want a night of passion to become a lifetime of pain and suffering and then death. Call me crazy but that's just how I roll.

I can say with my 28 years of experience, YES the studies are correct. I dont like to brag but condoms dont come in my size.. however I pull out and I have NEVER had any accidents.

... unless, at that last second of passion, someone's judgment isn't the greatest.

Here's a great question for Republicans! Let's say science (I know science is something you don't believe in, but bear with me) could tell us whether a baby will become born gay or not (an idea becoming near reality actually). I know how much you guys are against abortion and gays. So...which would it be? Allow a gay to be born and sin all his/her life and therefor go your imaginary hell that you call Hell. OR...would you rather back an abortion in this case?! Now that's a heck of a question right there!! :) JD.

I currently call myself a Republican, because I do not like the socialist agenda of the Democrat party. Having a president who thinks Supreme Court justices should render decisions based on personal feelings rather than constitutional law scares me. Being a Republican for most of us has nothing to do with belonging to an intolerant religion or group.

I do not consider being gay something for which to pin a medal on anyone, but neither is being heterosexual. And I consider abortion in the first trimester or at any time the mother's life is threatened to be every woman's right.

Don't paint all Republicans with the same brush. We do not all believe every plank of the Republican platform, any more than all Democrats believe every idea proposed by the Democrats.

The dead beat parents and couch cow mothers are the best example I can think of for using condoms. All the women who say -- oh you have been blessed with a pregnacy. They may have good intentions . What about the child? Millions every year are blessed with depressed obese mothers and dead beat fathers some never seen again or at all. They grow up with inferiorority complexes and are belittled by thier peers and same age kids that are not taught at the home level to count thier blessing not flaunt them. They groeew into frustrated adults become depressed and either go on a shooting spree or hook up with another woman or man from the sdame type childhood homes and the process starts all over again. How many of you reading this has a deadbeat child or daughter slepping on your couch when thier sorry a=sses should be working at something anything. The dead beat parents should be forced by government to work for the people who feed them and clothe and insure thier children. If the TAXPAYING citizens of this country have been been doing this for ten years ? Then these dead beAT LICE OF AMERICAN S OWE THIS COUNTRY TEN YEARS LABOR OR UNTIL THEY FALL OVER DEAD WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. These labor programs would sell a lot of condoms.

I don't think I've ever read so many ignorant comments and there sure are a lot of people out there who don't know much about reproduction.

Come on, get serious people. Everybody knows babies don't happen by sex, only God chooses that! A friend of mine was blessed with a baby recently. I told her "you are so lucky God blessed you by giving you a pregnancy"...and her reply was "Either that...or I got pregnant due to Bob (her husband) blowing a nut in me!". How absurd of her! If God didn't say so, it wouldn't have happened! :)
