A British tabloid says she -- boiled over at the hotel where contestants stay from the show that made her famous, "Britain's Got Talent."
As CBS News correspondent Richard Roth put it, "Fame has a price," and Boyle is "learning that part of it's sometimes bad press."
Britain's best-selling Sun newspaper says Boyle lost her cool in an encounter in the hotel's lobby with a pair of strangers -- one that ended in a chat with police.
Details are thin, Roth says, except for the paper's claim that the encounter included Boyle swearing at the strangers.
But on The Early Show Thursday, one of Boyle's biggest backers, "BGT"Judge Piers Morgan, said he's "feeling more supportive" of Boyle "today than I was before, because I feel really sorry for Susan.
"From what I hear," he told co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez, "she's been in tears the last two days. She even threatened to leave the show yesterday at one stage, because of the sheer amount of pressure on her.
"And you have to remember with Susan, she's a 48-year-old lady from a tiny village in Scotland who has never been exposed to anything like this kind of attention. And I think she's really feeling the heat.
"The hotel she's in is crawling in tourists, crawling in the media. I think maybe she overreacted. I don't know what happened. She denies, apparently, some of the things that have been reported.
"But either way, I know she's feeling a lot of pressure, and I think that most people watching this show and hearing about this will feel natural sympathy toward her. And I just hope it all calms down for the final. Because, on Saturday, she sings for the competition" -- for all the marbles.
Morgan, a former tabloid editor, admits he'd be covering Boyle heavily, too, if he were still in his old job. "Susan is the hottest story in town," he observed. ... Every single thing that Susan has done in the last three or four weeks has been headline news in Britain, in America, in Russia, in China. She's a true global phenomenon. ... And she's beginning to realize that her life will never be the same.
"I feel very, very sorry for her," Morgan continued. "At the same time, I've tried to explain to her, 'Look, you know, this is still a wonderful opportunity for you. And most people out there still have great affection for you, and are really willing you to victory. So try to keep calm, don't read the newspapers, don't watch television, keep yourself very cool and composed, and just focus on the (Saturday's) performance."
Boyle, Piers adds, "is quite naturally feeling the pressure. ... She knows that, on her semifinal performance, when she sang, she cracked at the start, and nearly blew it. And now she knows that she's got this amazing career ahead of her, if she can nail that song on Saturday. And it's going to be a fantastically exciting moment, because this is it. This is the two minutes that will define Susan Boyle's life."

- Why do the lyrics to 'Dirty Laundry' come to mind? Don Henley got it right!

- I'm not "feeling sorry for her" like Piers. What a stupid patronizing remark! I support Susan 1000%!

Um, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but don't you mean 100%? 100 out of 100 is the highest you can go. - Reply to this comment
- This is a by-product of the " gotta know everything" world. Laws should be passed that would deter these tabloids, paparazzi's and such. These people deserve there space just as you and I do. People need to get their own lives and quit living through these entertainment types. They put their pants on the same as you, one leg at a time.

- The truth is that "show business" is the most brutal activity one can be involved in. Not only is there the pressure to perform but the tabloids are always waiting live wolves to tear you apart for the most minor error. Anyone who wants to be a singer or actor must realize what they are getting into and be prepared to deal with it. I remember when Elvis had to rent the whole building just to go roller skating and it's worse now. I hope this sweet lady with the voice of an angel can hold on to who she really is. Good luck to you Susan.

- The state of the media these days (paparazzi, reporters, bloggers, etc.) is a sad commentary on how starved "the public" is for juicy gossip about entertainers. For Gods sake, entertainers are just people, aren't they? Granted, they have developed a talent that most of us don't have, and they are paid well for using that talent, but when they get home, they still have stinky feet, just like everyone else, and want to kick back and relax, like everyone else. Why the "press" won't let them take their family out to a restaurant, or go to the grocery store, without mobbing them for pictures and comments is beyond me. It's very sad.

- Miss Boyle, I'd like to introduce you to Charlotte Church, another graduate of the "Ozzy Osbourne School of Interpersonal Communication".
Here, just belt out the show stopper from "Phantom" and that'll shut everyone up.

- Susan, give yourself a break. Don't listen to these idiots. They are only jealous and trying to take away from you what they wish they had!! You come from a small town, what do you expect of yourself and what you are now trying to cope with?? So what about the f word, no matter how well bred we think we are everyone says it. Get a treadmill in your room and walk off the extra stress. You also need to sleep and eat right-no booze!!!
You will be fine, think only of the stage, those judges and let goddess guide you to the win of a lifetime for you.
I hope these all are read for her...its tough being in the public eye. It is a choice, you either do it or not, or have a happy meet in the middle with it. - Reply to this comment
- The peevish press love picking at people. Ms. Boyle's emergence onto the public radar has been nothing less than delightful. The fact she's been caught off-guard in not surprising considering that this is a standard media trick: to exploit.
I wish her all the best and for the press, they can pound sand. - Reply to this comment
- THIS IS TYPICAL NEWS SPIN

- It appears that it was not, in fact, "tourists" but so-called 'journalists' who were going out of their way to get a rise out of her, knowing full well that she'd been bullied as a kid. As a journalist myself, I find actions like these cause to have someone blackballed from the profession or at least forced to find work with TMZ (which it wouldn't surprise me if these jokers worked for the sleazy little lawyer-turned-muckraker anyway). All jokes aside (and I've made plenty of my own), Susan Boyle shouldn't have to be worrying about this kind of thing in the middle of a competition. The competition should be keeping her away from situations like this just as they should be every other person involved right now. Simon Cowell needs to keep his house in order and tell Piers Morgan to shut the frak up.

- Of course Susan got upset, because she should at this point have body guards around her and have persons with her to protect her. I believe that she is going to win and Susan, this is your chance at fame and you have the voice for it, go for it. Do not let a bunch of losers on the sidelines take this away from you. Just think of a funny comment to make when they ask stupid questions. When they ask a stupid question, tell them to ask your lawyer. Go Susan go, I am waiting and hoping you win. I will not be able to see the show, because I am in Canada and unless it is going to be on TV here, there is no way to know if you won.

- I think it's incredibly disgusting that any other of the major news media would give even a hint of credence to negative publicity about Susan Boyle from a TABLOID. Susan Boyle has always shown herself to be gracious and humble and if there occurred an incident wherein she felt obliged to defend herself, I'm sure she handled it well and rightfully.
Filthy tabloids are out to stir a furor and sell their trash. Anyone giving them any credibility is helping them sell their trash and must have their collective heads up a tunnel for which there is no light at the end. - Reply to this comment
- The 'tourists" (aka busybodies) should leave this woman alone. Let her get through this contest first--then, we can expect and begin to hold her to the rigorous standards for accepting all the attention, comments and criticisms we force all other 'stars' to conform to.
we're rooting for you Susan, and if we see you anywhere--we will be sure to ignore you just like we do every other so called 'star' or celebrity that some people feel a need to chase or dine off of--because they don't have meaningful/real lives of their own. - Reply to this comment
- I agree with godscre. Shame on Piers for leading her on. I'm sure she doesn't understand that Piers is just teasing her. Susan is from a very small village and has led a very sheltered life. She has even noted that she wanted to prove she wasn't "worthless." She had learning disabilities as a child. I can understand her feeling so overwhelmed. Why didn't the show provide some security for her? Susan has every right to protect herself if no one else steps up to the plate to help her. Susan Boyle will be a star whether or not she wins. We, as fans, need to take a step back and give her some space. I'm not "feeling sorry for her" like Piers. What a stupid patronizing remark! I support Susan 1000%!

- Susan needs to ignore the tabloids and just concentrate on working with her God given gift of a wonderful voice. Hopefully, her friends can help her out by shielding her from the tabloids and others that want to make money off her. She most likely needs a very good agent even now. Regardless of what happens from here forwards, she has a manificient singing career ahead of her. I cannot wait for her first CD.

- So many people, once they achieve a modicum of success go on to ruin it for themselves for one reason or another. Either they didn't understand what "celebrity" was all about and crack under the constant pressure from fans and press, or they implode because deep down inside they don't believe they deserve the success and, let's face it, big bucks, that come their way. This happened to Chuck Negron who joined singers Danny Hutton and Cory Wells to found Three Dog Night in 1968; that group became one of the most successful bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Negron, who couldn't cope with success, developed a drug habit and lived on the streets for over twenty years until successfully beating the addiction in the 90's. He tells about in his book "Three Dog Nightmare: The Chuck Negron Story." It makes for interesting reading. I would hate to see Susan Boyle destroy herself and/or pending career because of a lack of emotional maturity but her gyrations on stage after winning a spot in the finals did not bode to well. If she doesn't get herself under control and get counseling from some shp biz pros, it could happen very easily. best of luck to her.

- I have noticed that when a person makes a little headway in this stream of
success many of you would simply drown this poor soul with thier snide remarks
and your indifference .... Start confusing her with other reality show vultures. This
lady was soul as well as talent. So lets show support. - Reply to this comment
- ...I agree with anti-global! ... why people get all hyped up and involved in these total strangers' lives is beyond me. Maybe they need to get a life of their own. As anti-global said, these people on AI and S. Boyle are people we actually know almost nothing about. Boyle may cuss like a sailor .... we don't know! And, who cares? The world goes nuts over the silliest things! I can't stand American Idol either. What a totally fake show!!
