Obama Urges Americans To Honor Veterans

(AP)  President Barack Obama urged Americans to pay tribute to veterans on Memorial Day, saying the nation all too often has "failed to live up to that responsibility."

In his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday, Mr. Obama said people can honor veterans by sending a letter or care package to troops overseas, volunteering at health clinics or taking supplies to a homeless veterans center. He said it could also mean something as simple as saying "thank you" to a veteran walking by on the street.

"We have a responsibility to serve all of them as well as they serve all of us," Mr. Obama said. "And yet, all too often in recent years and decades, we, as a nation, have failed to live up to that responsibility. We have failed to give them the support they need or pay them the respect they deserve.

"That is a betrayal of the sacred trust that America has with all who wear and all who have worn the proud uniform of our country," he said.

Mr. Obama said he was committed to giving troops the training and equipment they need and making certain the Veterans Affairs Department had the money it needed. He also noted that he had signed a bill into law that would eliminate waste in defense projects and was working to improve the economy so that veterans can find a good job, provide for their families and earn a college degree.

"That is what Memorial Day is all about," Mr. Obama said. "It is about doing all we can to repay the debt we owe to those men and women who have answered our nation's call by fighting under its flag. It is about recognizing that we, as a people, did not get here by accident or good fortune alone."

This is sooo weird!
Nobody I know needs Obama to urge them to honor fallen heros or to remind them of what this day is about.
What is CBS trying to say here? That Americans just can't reason. remember , think or feel without THE GUIDING LIGHT FROM WASHINGTON telepromptering everyone?
Hold it.
Wait.
YES! There are people like that. They gotta take their cues from Washington and the politdemocrapparatus to know what to say they think. Progressives. Liberals . A day without Washington is like a day without proper survival temperature to them.

Typical liberals belief. America is destroyed because Bush decided not go for the lefty idealogy.
Your nutjob is currently in the White House dismantling America under the cloak of protecting the constitution.

A moral stand must be taken and adhered to which is why we have a line in the sand in the first place otherwise anarchy and chaos reigns as people do whatever they see fit in their own eyes whether it be homosexuality, bisexuality, trisexuality, polygamy, bestiality, or necrophilia. The government has a line in the sand on Memorial Day & Veteran's Day and unfortunately some people have an agenda refusing to remember & honor either. Do I run the world? You wish, but I have a relationship with The One who does. I know The Master of Morality and The Rule Maker for all that is Right(eous). He can also be found in that illegal prayer masquerading as a poem's song in the last verse of "My Country Tis' of Thee"...
Our father's God to thee, sweet land of liberty to Thee we sing,
Long may our land be bright with freedom's Holy Light,
Protect us by Thy Might Great God our King.
Maybe one day this prayer will no longer be outlawed in public school. Whatever you do don't look up the last verse of our National Anthem cuz it's a prayer too in a poem's song!

Who cares where you draw the line... are you running the world? Are you the master of morality and the rule maker for all that is right?

First, I remember the fallen veterans & their noble sacrifice and then thank all veterans for their service regardless of their orientation. However, I must draw a line in the sand and say marriage is between one man and one woman and therefore I can not and do not support the gay agenda anymore than homosexuality, bisexuality, trisexuality, polygamy, bestiality, or necrophilia.

As soon as our President uses his privilege of Executive Order to stop the implementation of the horrid "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy to honor the gay and lesbian men and women who are currently serving our country with pride and distinction, then I will listen to him when he urges us to honor our veterans.

Until then, it's just so much hot air.

Most of the current Vets fought for the CIA, not some gloried American ideal.
Ask yourself if dying for the CIA Pentagoons is really worth it?

It's ONE thing to defend America, another to invade for large corporations...
