"Archie" Finally Taking The Plunge

After Six Decades Of Indecisiveness, Comic Book Character Will Get Married To Either Betty Or Veronica

(CBS)  After six decades of indecisiveness comic book favorite, "Archie" has finally decided to get married - of course the big question is who will he marry Betty or Veronica?

"The longest comic book love triangle in history is coming to an end. We're told that Archie Andrews will at long last propose to either Betty or Veronica in a special issue coming out this summer," said The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.

The series features the fictional teenage Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle and Forsythe "Jughead" Jones characters by publisher/editor John L. Goldwater, written by Vic Bloom and drawn and created by Bob Montana.

Early Show co-anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, Early Show news anchor, Russ Mitchell and Early Show's weather anchor and features reporter, Dave Price, sat down for a chat about the popular comic book.

"It's been a while since I have read an 'Archie' comic, but isn't he in high school?' asked Mitchell.

"He's been in for a long time - school is not his forte," Price joked.

"So I don't really know that much about the Archie comics. Is it like Mary Anne and Ginger, kind of the same thing?" asked Rodriguez.

Veronica is considerd the "hot one," the anchors concurred.

"If Archie were on an island, Veronica would be Ginger and Betty would be Mary Anne," Price explained.

"Oh, okay. So which one would you guys choose?" Rodriguez asked.

"Mary Anne," if we are doing this analogy with 'Gilligan's Island,'" said Price. "It's always about personality and kindness."

"Well, hang on a second. Is a volcano going to erupt in a week and kill everybody?" Smith joked.

"You're going with Veronica," Price told Smith.

"And forever?" Rodriguez asked.

"Betty," Price replied. "Do we agree gentlemen?"

"You've got to go with Betty on the long-term," Mitchell said.

"I won't ask you which one you think I am," Rodriguez said.

"You're a mix of the best between the two," Price responded.

"Best of both worlds," Mitchell added.

"Excellent answer, Dave Price," Rodriguez said.

"Hello, Nobel committee, I'd like to file a nomination," Price said.

"We can make peace in the morning..." Smith said.

The first issue of Archie Comics was released in 1942. Starting with issue #114, the title was shortened to "Archie".

Isn't Archie, Veronica, Betty and the rest of the gang still in high school, or have I missed so many issues they have now graduated and are pursuing careers?

A) Has Ms. Rodriguez been living under a rock ?-- how does she not know Veronica or Betty?
B) Seems Ms. Rodriguez did not do her home work before the show - talk about an ill informed reporter.
