Italy Will Resume CIA Rendition Trial

By
CBSNews
(AP)  The trial of 26 Americans and seven Italians accused of orchestrating a CIA-led kidnapping of an Egyptian terror suspect will continue, an Italian judge ruled Wednesday.

Judge Oscar Magi decided the politically sensitive trial could continue after Italy's Supreme Court threw out key evidence that it said was classified.

Magi announced the decision at a hearing in Milan, and adjourned the trial to next week.

The two-year-old trial is the first by any government over the CIA's extraordinary renditions program.

Successive Italian governments have denied any involvement in the Feb. 17, 2003 abduction of Egyptian cleric Osama Moustafa Hassan Nasr, also known as Abu Omar. He was taken from a Milan street in daylight.

The American defendants - mostly CIA agents - have been tried in absentia. All have court-appointed lawyers who have had no contact with their clients. The CIA has refused to comment on the case.

Boy is Pelosi dead on about the CIA. I think the American public has been so desensitized to killing, kidnapping, torture and other crimes that many of them believe our government and CIA can do no wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I have written many damning articles about bush and cheney and will never stop. Now I am highly concerned about obama. He has decide to protect the previous president and vp so I think if he wants to swim with sharks he will be eaten alive. I think this country is too great to have it president to hide behind the Supreme Courts using them as the reason to protect those who have cause such great damage to our White Hats. I as sick of the many laws and rights being broke and walked on. Frank Bowers

planning on whitewashing whited sepulchres mr obama?

you profess christianity?

well what would jesus say to you? do you think he would say it's ok barak. i understand you have to do what you feel is best for the country. i give you special dispensation to violate my laws. just as i did with your predicessors, those good christian men bush and cheney.

what do you think mr president? sound like the Lord to you?

:((

if you don't find a way to deliver them to justice you are just as bad as they are. i like you mr president. you seem to have a moral center and are intelligent and don't have a futurama like brain slug to think for you as bush had with cheney.

now it's your turn to be tested and remember mr president....if you believe in the Lord---the Lord really is watching. by their works shall ye know them. how shall we know you mr president? by your works just like everybody else.

it's a tough nut to united americans and move forward and still reconcile the past abuses.

immunity would be an affront if you give it to bush and cheney? what moral stance can you have when dealing with other nations. if we refuse to live by the law....we are outlaw and deserve what we get as a nation. the Lord said that He would turn into hell every nation that forgets God and that seems to pretty much sums up what is happening to this country.

i doubt you'll ever read these words or the others here, but just in case,....bush and cheney knew nothing of the Righteousness of the Lord....do you mr president?

it remains to be seen.

Another case like that is with a german court for abducting someone out of Germany. the names of the cia agents are known. the place of a secret prison of the cia in poland is well known as well.

But in europe we are not surprised about the action of the cia. they were entangled in a lot of military and right wing governments for example in southern america from chile ro brazil, argentina sice decades.

you better wake up.

it was always the big stick policy and the cia was doing the ugly part. you canīt be really surprised .

With Obama not wanting to go forward on punishing those whom tortured makes him guilty as an accessory after the fact. Any basic law student will confirm that.

There will be those who attack the proceedings.
I would ask if they would allow foreign agents to abduct people off of our streets......

Correct you are, if what the US has done around the world in the last 8 years, were to be done by some other country, eg Russia, China etc. the US would be clamoring for sanctions and yelling for human rights violations and much more on the leaders of that country.

The CIA has a lot of splainen to do. Porter Goss needs to clean up the joint. I'm fed up with reading about our corrupt government...corrupt in almost every aspect. Secret wire taps, illegal search and seizure, congress on everybody's payroll, the fed in bed with wall street, former admistrations conducting torture, starting wars without cause...and that's just the federal level....don't even get me started on state and local governments.

It's humiliating to think about how our "great country" has begun to circle the bowl.

I agree. The USA has become a country where cover-up of illegalities and government corruption and trashing of our Constitution is accepted SOP. 9-11 was a biggie btw.

Either we wear the white hat of international behavior with some consistency or we will be viewed as hypocrites and unworthy of setting any example of behavior. It takes an ability to view such atrocities from all sides to understand why it generates such controversy.
