U.S. swimmer, dubbed 'The Flying Fish' by the Chinese, was star of first week of Beijing Games.

(CBS/ AP)  No sex, no drugs, no, Michael Phelps is back in the news as a swimmer.

After a photo showing Phelps with a bong earned him a three-month suspension, the swimming great easily qualified for the finals of two events Friday morning at the Charlotte Ultraswim, his first meet since winning eight Olympic gold medals in Beijing.

Most recently, Phelps was back in the news after a stripper told a British tabloid the super athlete was also super in the bedroom.

Phelps touched second in the last heat of the 200-meter freestyle at 1 minute, 50.46 seconds, and came back about an hour later to win the final heat of the 100 butterfly in 53.41. In both events, he had the third-fastest time overall, advancing to the evening "A" finals.

This is the first meet for which Phelps was eligible since completing a three-month suspension by USA Swimming.

Having served the suspension doled out by USA Swimming, time he spent training and losing nearly 20 post-Olympic pounds, Phelps still has time to compete in three events before the national championships in early July and the world championships in Rome later that month.

He's eager to start working toward some new goals.

"It's kind of like Tiger (Woods) working on his putting game or his pitching game," Phelps said. "It's sort of completing the whole package."

Phelps is an amazing athlete. He won eight gold medals at the last Olympics and he did it while he was on pot. While on POT.

Pot is not that bad, especially if used in moderation. It doesn't wear down the body like alcohol does.

Phelps is a healthy young man whose spent most of his growing up years in training and has accomplished some great things.. Who in that situation wouldn't be heady about catching up on some partying? The important thing is that, whether or not he remains an athelete, sex and drugs shouldn't rule anyone's lives.

Sex and pot do not destroy a life, nor do they make Michael Phelps any less of a human being than anyone else. It amazes me that people will put him down for smoking pot , while they support the robberies and war our government is waging,,,,,,Phelps smoking pot or having sex did not hurt me or any other American citizens,,,but what congress is doing is destroying our country ,,,why do people not notice which is worse for our country?,,,,,most people know more about what is going on with American idol , than what crimes our congress is committing and what damage they are doing to this country.

I really don't care about this guy's personal life, because the truth is, most celebrity athletics, entertainers, and politicians do some pretty despicable and illegal things---and whether they are actually brought to justice, is based on WHO they are---and WHO they know!

So, I don't "get my knickers in a twist" about it! If he self-destructs, it's HIS problem, not mine!

don't care about the marijuana or the other stuff, but lost a little respect for the guy after hearing about him dating the Carrie Prejean bimbo.

I'm confused. Swimmers aren't allowed to get laid, either?

Out of the frying pan, into the fire. Someone explain public relations to the dunce, if you can catch him between all his vices.

If anyone is to be blamed for this mess it must be GW Bush!! I'm sure Obama would agree since slamming the Republicans has become top priority.

The only reason the reporters try to bring him down because of sex is that the prostitutes the reporters hire LAUGH when they pull their pants down.

Of course he lost 20 lb's. He's not smokin pot anymore, so no more munchies.

This is the first I'd heard of his bedroom exploits though.

I hate him even more!

lmao
