On The Early Show Friday, Moakler said she quit because Prejean simply won’t take responsibility for any of the things Prejean has said and done that have put her in the center of a storm since the Miss USA pageant last month -- including aligning herself with what Moakler says she considers “hate groups.”
Prejean’s anti-same-sex marriage comments during the Miss USA competition caused a stir and, along with semi-nude photos of her that surfaced since, put her title in jeopardy. But Trump is letting her hold onto her crown.
“It was a very, very difficult decision for me” to step down, Moakler told Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen. “But at the end of the day, I really -- I had to follow my heart. I didn't feel, you know, that at the press conference (with Trump), that Carrie at that time was really taking any responsibility. And for me, it was just very difficult to stand behind.
“ ... There's so many different factors that weigh into this story and that have kind of made it so sensational, from gay rights, to the First Amendment (Prejean has cited her right to free speech in defending the anti-same-sex marriage comments), to the pictures, to big business, and I, you know -- one of the biggest factors was actually the next day ... when she was talking (during a broadcast interview) about the photographs, and she was blaming this photographer, and blaming the wind, and you know , is constantly being a victim and pointing fingers at everybody else and I just couldn't stand behind that...
“I just wanted her to be honest, and just say -- I didn't want her to lose her crown. But I would have loved to have heard her say 'You know what? I was a young kid, and I made a mistake,’ and, ‘Yes, I should have told the pageant officials about (the photos). I never thought I would, you know, be in this position and I made a mistake. Sorry.’ That would have been fine.”
Moakler added, “I think she's a young girl, and I think she was thrown into the spotlight (after the Miss USA pageant). I think she was not prepared. I think a lot of organizations latched onto her. They exploited her. They didn't prepare her. I think, you know, she's very honest when she says she never expected this.
"But at the same time, I think it's wrong to start screaming that you're being persecuted and then you go and align yourself with organizations like NOM that are particularly -- I consider them hate groups. (NOM is) the National Organization for Marriage,” which opposes same-sex marriage.
Moakler, Miss USA in 1995, is an actress and model, and posed nude for Playboy magazine -- but not until several years after she was Miss USA. The December 2001 Playmate of the Month said in her Playboy bio that her turnoffs include, "People who lie, cheat and are dishonest."

- It's kind of ironic that the homosexual community is preaching about tollerance and freedom, while at the same time attacking Miss Prejean for exercising her rights and freedoms.
This is my problem with the leaders of the homosexual community. I do not hate gay people. I have a few gay friends and even relatives. But every time I offer an opinion different to that of the gay agenda, I'm labeled as a 'bigot' or 'nazi' or 'homophobe'. Tolerance doesn't mean I have to agree with you 100% of the time.... - Reply to this comment
- So it's ok for this woman to pose nude and get breast implants, but it's not ok for miss prejean? What a hipocrite

- Maggie Rodrigues is so ugly in person inside and out. I'm surprised she has a job!
I met her and I wasn't impressed with her fake boobs and greasy hair. She made Carrie Prejean look like a SAINT! It was like watching beauty and the taco. - Reply to this comment
- I wish this ugly Shanna would shut her mouth and stop being so jealous of Carrie and her beauty. Shanna you are washed out OLD and have a Fat face. Come on...you know you can't' hold a candle to Miss Carrie...that's why you are a quitter.
Get rid of that ugly necklace too. sick of seeing it.
Get a life and go watch your kids. Oh...kids? Yes, you forgot. You are a mother ....what kind is sad. - Reply to this comment
- I feel like that I am merely echoing the rest of you when I say that Miss Prejean was merely espousing what she believed in and exercising her Constitutional right of free speech. What's wrong with that?

- Mrs. Moakler clearly has other issues which do not allow her to continue in her position. Those are her business and I don't think most care why she really quit. Maybe someday she will have the courage to be honest why she quit.

- The '****' agenda has adopted what other fascist groups did to grow their cause, redefine and capture words to their advantage. First, they altered the meaning of the innocent word, 'gay' to promote that their 'sad' existence is actually a 'happy' one. Honestly, have you ever met a 'happy' person who flaunts the homosexual cause? The manner in which they treat each other within their cliques borders on harassment and sometimes is criminal. Then they altered meanings of other words, i.e, tea-bag, 'FFA' which commonly is known for a wonderful organization, Future Farmers of America, 'hate' is changed to mean to not agree with their agenda and finally 'marriage'. It does not help where they trick legislatures to construct 'hate-crime' legislation to push their agenda. BTW, by definition, there must exist a 'love-crime'. Can you cite a 'love'-crime'? I like how Chen offers her support to Moakler at the end of the segment. No media bias here. Moakler is a loser and is vying for a spot for next season's 'Girls Next Door'.

- When talking about hate groups, maybe Ms. Moakler and others should look to the left for it is they that actually spew the hate. Freedom of Speech is one of the greatest rights that we have as citizens for it lets us all voice opposition to those issues that we do not agree with. All views should be respected and not attacked for if one attacks opposing views and those that present these opposing views, then we start to stray away from the principles that we have built our society upon, and look to adopt a different philosophy.
If there is anyone who is in the wrong here, it is Perez hilton, Ms. Moakler and anyone else who tries to silence opposing opinions. Maybe they should read the freedoms granted to all, and realize that they do not have a monopoly on this issue. Or are they afraid of the opposition.
Could it be that what PreJean opinioned is shared by a great percentage of Americans.. Maybe this is what they are afraid of ? - Reply to this comment
- Everyone seems to forget that it was Mr. Lavandeira who inappropriately asked the 'gotcha' question to Miss Perjean with the intention of hijacking the pageant with his '****' agenda. He wanted to 'stick-it' to the contestant whose state citizens rejected the 'same-sex marriage' agenda by passing CA legislation, Proposition 8. After Miss California eloquently answered the question with a response similar to Obama, Biden and Hillary, the '****' contingent and their ilk launched a media war against her which the liberal mainstream supported with their 'squash a conservative' playbook digging for any negative item even if the source is fabricated, i.e., rumor, Photoshop, fragmented quotes, etc. Attached this circus to Trump's love of publicity and you almost have the perfect media storm. Fortunately, Trump made the only correct conclusion after milking it for over a week because it did conflict with the Apprentice final episode. Like most of the reality shows, the audience cannot stand the token 'GLADD' character on the show since most reveal how shallow, mean-spirited, narcissistic and 'un-gay' they are. As Perjean, correctly cited, you are basically free to adopt any lifestyle you want in the privacy of your lives. However, you do not have the freedom to trample other lives by trying to redefine religious terms with your perverted agenda and language.

- A gay rights supporter's (or really any liberal's) definition of a "hater" or a "hate group" is anyone who does not agree with them. If your opinion does not agree with their opinion, you are not entitled to your opinion. And strangely enough, they consider themselves tolerant and conservatives are intolerant.

- I agree that she was asked a question and she answered it honestly. If it was a political question then the judge should not have asked the question if he did not want an honest answer. He should be the one at fault not Ms. California. The judge is the one that made it political. To me end of story.

- Who defines 'hate groups?"
At the moment HiltonP, Ms. Moakler and all the Gay/lesbian organizations seem to be the very definition of 'hate group.' Their absolute intent seems to be to destroy First Amendment protections for ANYONE who disagrees with them. They do so in the most vile and obscene manner they can contrive.
The problem is, the Lefties and the G/L Haters are so busy mouthing off, no one else's opinion can be heard (which, no doubt, is their goal.) - Reply to this comment
- I honestly can't figure out why the left (particularly it's mouthpiece - the MSM) so fears a beauty pagent contestent. She answered the moron's question politely, honestly and gracefully. She went on to say that she was proud to live in a country where someone could chose same-sex marriage. She shares the same opinion as our president and a majority of Americans...yet, idiots and haters like Ms. Moakler, CBS and CNN continue to pile on.
It is, however, fine and perfectly understandable a militant, disengenuous gay activist-turned-pagent-judge to call the woman a "B__ch" and a "C__t".
Strange Times we live in people!

- If I understand the popular view here, It is time to remove the youth from "Christian" families to re-education camps, euthanize the parents, and sterilize these children so their parents genetic mental diseases don't reproduce.

- If this kind of hate is reflective of Christian behavior......NO THANKS!

so again, this is one person's opinion. so based on what one person says, you'll sum-up the entire christian community and reject them all. no matter what good does come from them, even if there are parts of it you don't agree with.
your reaction is extreme. heck, everyone's reactions are far toooo extreme.
america needs to take a deep breathe and stop hating and ridiculing each other.

- Anti-same-sex-marriage comments? She wasn't "anti" anything. She was in support of marriage between a man and a woman, just like Obama. She took great pains to say she hoped she didn't offen anyone. Typical biased left-wing reporting by you nut jobs at CBS. No wonder you're losing viewers by the millions.

- She was asked a question and answered it honestly. Which agrees with President Obama. Then the Anti American Liberals trash her for exercising her Freedom of Speech. The only reason she lost that pagent is because of that fudge packing judge that should have been disqualified as a judge once he trashed this lady. Yes I am a Bible thumbing, God Fearing, Gun Owning, Red ,White, and Blue Vetran. I believe Jack Bauer's method of interragation should be the minumum these Rag Heads get when they are caught. Anyone that thinks the Rag Heads do not treat our people worse then that our IDIOTS.

Sirman- i dont even know where to start with your comments.... are you cool with rev. wright and his ilk?? and the politician who was married by him and had his children baptized by him? who attended his church for 20 years?? why dont you come out in anger against them? those who also have stated they oppose gay marriage and who say they are christian, who actually hold the highest position in public office RIGHT NOW.
instead, you want to go after this girl who expressed her opinion as protected by the first amendment....
real christianity is kindness, forgiveness, loving others first, morality, consciousness, charity, and on and on... so it's not enough for you to hate ms. prejean and to blow her situation vastly out of proportion, but to also attack the whole of christianity?
you're just horribly confused... - Reply to this comment
- I don't agree with gay marriage either. But, unlike bigots like her I don't feel the need to impose my belief's upon rest of the country.

If you were asked, point-blank, about your views on gay marriage, on national TV, are you saying you would just refuse to answer? According to you, answering the question is "imposing your beliefs on the rest of the country." Isn't that what her attackers were trying to do -- impose their own beliefs on the rest of the country, using the pageant as a platform? - Reply to this comment
- I blame the pageant coordinators -- if they MUST keep the question portion of the pageant, they should only ask the girls questions that can end with the answer "world peace".
