Report: FBI Lax In Updating Terror List

(CBS)  Since the Sept. 11 attacks, the FBI's top priority has been tracking and stopping potential terrorist attacks against the United States.

But, a new report Wednesday from the Justice Department's Inspector General says the FBI has been lax in updating the nation's terror watch list, CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reports.

The report, which looked at 216 terrorism investigations, reveals the FBI has often been late in submitting names of suspected terrorist to the watch list, and in a few cases, has never added the names.

And the report says 12 suspects, who should have been added to the list, may have traveled into or out of the United States.

In addition, Inspector General Glenn Fine also found in 8 percent of the cases the FBI failed to remove names of terror suspects who had been cleared for one reason or another.

In releasing the findings Fine said, "The FBI needs to ensure that it makes timely nominations to the terrorist watch list - failure to do so can have significant consequences for public safety."

FBI Assistant Director John Miller did not dispute the report, but said the FBI has already taken steps to improve watch list procedures by implementing all 16 recommendations received from the IG.

This is because the current administration does not support the war on terror

This report should surprise no one!

Any competency in the FBI was chased out during the Bush/Cheney administration!

If you want to "fix" the FBI (and the problems enumerated in that report), there will need to be personnel changes in management! THIS, was suppose to happen anyway when Mr. Obama took office!

Perhaps, his chief-of-staff needs to look into this!

It seems that if it were really important, they would have done it.

So it must not be that important, correct?

The FBI (and other agencies) should keep this list as up-to-date as possible.

The FBI needs to keep this list current as often as possible. Enough said.

The war on terror is basically a war against fear! Have you not read the Word! I't clearly states "Do not fear, for I am with you1". But, if you haven't taken the time to read the word then maybe you should worry because, I probably am not with you!

Oh well, what the heck, we've got Janetdyke Napolitano filling up the terror list with every day Americans....that they think are a danger to the communist regime.

That old terrorist list is just taking care of itself as we speak.

One way to bring big changes to a government is to have a major crisis to use as an excuse. Sometimes nothing is done to stop a coming attack and other times there are "false flag" attacks where the government itself is responsible for the attack and then blames another country or group of people. It's like how Hitler had the Reichstag fire them blamed the Communists and used it as an excuse for getting much more power.
