With Democrats in control in both chambers AND the White House, latest session convenes.

(AP)  A company owned by a nephew of Rep. John Murtha received $4 million from the Defense Department last year for engineering and warehouse services, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Murtha, D-Pa., is chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee.

Murtech Inc., based on Glen Burnie, Md., is owned by the congressman's nephew Robert C. Murtha Jr., who told the Post the company provides "necessary logistical support" to Pentagon testing programs, "and that's about as far as I feel comfortable going."

The Post reported that the Pentagon rewarded contracts to Murtech without competition.

Robert Murtha denied using his family ties to land defense contracts. In fact, he told the Post, "I've been critiqued all my life, having the last name of Murtha."

Rep. Murtha has been known for his skill at steering government money to defense contractors in his home state. But the Post said there was no evidence the lawmaker had earmarked funds for Murtech.

If they allegations against John edwards and Richardson turn out to be true these guys need to pay for there misdeeds I doubt that any republican would say the same about the past administration. And wasn't bush the one who instituted the no bid contracts? I wonder why were not hearing anything about haliburton and the past administration ? Oh ya thats right they can't do no wrong. there the the people who talk to god. are religous and still beleive in torturing your fellow man. So if murthas' nephew does make money on the no bids what would it compare to other friends or relitves of the GOP for the last eight years

it figures that dems aren't here and its not a popular place for posting because this is contrary to popular wisdom that republicans are the source of all ill. Note John Edwards is subject to a grand jury for paying off his mistress with campaign funds. Richardson is involved in a play to pay scandal such as happened with blagojevich. Democrats have as sticky fingers as anyone and are not above suspicion.

the Democrats are doing a fine job of picking up that torch and running with it.

Did you read the article? "the Post said there was no evidence the lawmaker had earmarked funds for Murtech." You only seem to question the motives of democrats, not the real news. Change your moniker!

With Murtha's history you believe that?? He's the chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee and big contract just happen to go to his kid. You are either very gullible or a die-hard party guy that think their party leaders can do no harm. That's the same cr@p we got from die-hard righties which messed us up real good. How about having a critical of all politicians instead being a blinders on party loyalist. You're like a parent whose kid robs liqueur stores, but denies & will not accept that their "precious child" could do anything like that even after they see the surveillance video.

If George Bush REALLY cared about America,,,,he would have declined any library and donated that money to a good cause..like helping out people in this country he has destroyed, due to his TWO lie wars.

Bush was not alone in committing acts of cronyism and corruption throughout the USA. He had the support of the entire Republicon Fascist Party, now nothing more than a regional party of southern white trash and bigots.
