(CBS/ AP)  The mother of the California octuplets has been questioned by police and child welfare officials after her 4-year-old autistic son showed up at school with a black eye and bite marks.

Nadya Suleman's attorney, Jeff Czech, says it's not clear if any action will be taken against the mother of 14 young children.

Suleman says her son hit his eye when he threw himself on the floor, reports Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman.

"He has meltdowns; it's normal to have meltdowns. He throws himself down. So, in the process of throwing himself on the floor, he hit his face on the desk," Suleman told the Website Radaronline.com.

As for the bite mark, Suleman pointed a finger at the four-year-old's two-year-old brother who, she told Radaronline, tends to get aggressive.

Suleman told Radaronline authorities "just wanted to verify that (the four-year-old is) OK, make sure he's being supervised enough. ... They just wanted to check the kids. They're shocked that everything's so organized, and we're doing a good job."

Police have said they've made several visits to Suleman's home in the past year to respond to complaints about lost, trapped or poorly cared for children, but, Kauffman points out, haven't removed any from the home.
