(CBS/AP)  Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick will be taking on new roles: parents of twin girls.

The "Sex and the City" star and her actor-husband are expecting twins through a surrogate pregnancy, representatives for the couple said Tuesday.

Star magazine reports that the woman carrying the babies is a 26-year-old divorcee and is nearly seven months pregnant. The magazine says she's being paid "tens of thousands of dollars" and adds, "The tykes will be born in (Parker's) home state of Ohio."

Parker, 44, and Broderick, 47, "are happily anticipating the birth of their twin daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate. The entire family is overjoyed," said a statement from the publicists.

The couple has a 6-year-old son, James Wilkie Broderick, and will mark their 12th wedding anniversary next month.

Details about the surrogate and her pregnancy were unavailable, the publicists said.

Parker starred in the "Sex and the City" TV series and the hit movie of the same name. Broderick's credits include the films "Glory" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and the Broadway musical "The Producers."

Women gotta breed. THEY JUST GOTTA! Must have baby. NOW. All their gal pals have a baby so they must have one. Just dying to buy that $1750 stroller. Fill the house full of baby clothes, toys, food, formula, etc. Addicted to being pregnant. Angelina Jolie is nuts.
So is Madonna. Look out for famous rich women who get the "baby bug." Don't you dare get in their way. Husband is just a means to the end. Once the babies start popping out of the baby vending machine, hubby takes a back seat. All about the kids.

Maxim named horse-faced Parker as Unsexiest Woman Alive.
It's not just a couple men who think this, rather, most of the male culture finds this woman rather unattractive.

She looks like pale, flat-chested horse. Plain and simple.

How she ever got on a show called "Se*x and the City" is beyond most of us.

I agree completely.

I'll never understand why any parent would want to try and get a baby this way. You're asking for a life time of the possibility that the children's birth mother will have regret and want them back. After all, women are completely unstable for the most part and many don't think about their actions ahead of time, leading to the very situation that I'm sure will haunt Sara Jessica and hubby throughout their parenthood.

I have to disagree with you richard. I think SJP is very hot, I do think there are better pictures of her than others, but overall, I'd hit it.

It sounds like it was an accident, not murder. And I'm sure not a day goes by that he does not think of it. If he wasn't punished as thoroughly as you may think he should have, that is a fault of Ireland's justice system, not Broderick's.

And this is news why???

I doubt that anyone posting comments can attest to her health, perhaps after having her first child she was told by her doctor not to try for more and at 44 (my age as well) she may be considered high risk and chose a surrogate. Who says this child in not biologically theirs anyway?

We all know what a reliable news source the Star rag mag is now don't we!

I see the judgment police are out in force today. richardj3901: Sarah Jessica Parker is not a classic beauty but she is not ugly. Does everyone need to look like Christie Brinkley? Should we kill all the women who don't look as good as Christie Brinkley? How about all the men who don't look like George Clooney? What do you look like?

To all of those raising hell that they're not adopting existing children: Adopting is an option, not a requirement. My sister and her husand adopted two infants because in vitro was not an option and a surrogate was not an option. Unless you've been through the struggles of trying to conceive and being unsuccessful, how can you have such a mean, vindictive opinion on this?

And as to Matthew Broderick's accident in Ireland where two women were killed, these kinds of accidents happen all the time. My father was killed in an accident and the person(s) at fault didn't go to jail. It's not like Broderick was drinking.

whatsup49 -- tsk tsk you believe what you read in the press - I'm sorry for you and you're missing my point.

He and his 'people' manipulated the authorities at the time of the 'accident' - clearly he was negligent in the deaths of those women, for which he received no punishment. He caused their deaths and got away with murder and you're on about reconciliation - again, you miss the point.

jflood, broderick and the women's family tried to reconcile the deaths in 2002. he may not have acknowledged anything about this tragedy in public, but the 2002 meeting indicates he has faced up to the accident. the accident was more than 20 years ago . . . he has his own demons to live with, i'm sure you're not one of them...
and to richardj3901, sarah jessica parker is not "so ugly." she is among some of the most beautiful women on tv.

This is an odd route to take considering all the children in the world needing good parents, especially since genetically the babies may not be theirs anyways. Or if they had just put their priorities in order a couple of years earlier they could have done it the old fashioned way and not HIRED a woman to be mom for the first 9 months! But with all their money I guess you don't have to plan ahead, money can buy you anything.

Nothing like a couple of 50 year olds having infants -- the things money let you do that common sense says no to.

And when will Broderick face up to killing two women in a road accident in Ireland - the b a s t a r d!

I guess adopting some unwanted kids wasn't that important. Surrogacy is a form of prostitution and should be illegal. There are plenty of unwanted kids needing adoption into a loving, caring home. These celebs did the wrong thing.

I'm glad to hear that they will be parents again.... I think they are a great couple and know that the kids will have a wonderful life with Sarah and Matt as doting parents. I wish them all the very best!

Quite brave in admitting they're using a surrogate. Most likely it's donor eggs as well.

Good luck and I hope it works out well!
