A Boston med student is accused of killing a woman who advertised as a masseuse on the popular Web site.

(AP)  A band that had planned to play at the August wedding of the medical student accused of killing a masseuse he met on Craigslist is now looking for a new gig.

The Bstreetband, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, had been scheduled to play at the New Jersey oceanside wedding of suspect Philip Markoff and his fiancee, Megan McAllister, on Aug 14.

But now, the band is available for another gig on that date, according to its Web site.

"Due to circumstances beyond our control, this date is now available to book," says a blurb on its performance schedule.

William Forte, the keyboardist and owner of the Bstreetband, said a relative of McAllister called him and said "that as of right now, there is no way they will be able to have the Aug. 14 wedding date."

Forte said he plans to return the couple's $500 deposit.

"Under the circumstances, I would never hold them to the contract," Forte said.

McAllister issued a statement Monday through Ocean Township, N.J., attorney Robert A. Honecker Jr., who said McAllister would not speak directly to the media. McAllister said she loved and supported her fiance and planned to cooperate with the investigation.

"It is my intent to fully cooperate with my fiance's attorney as well as the Suffolk County District Attorney's office as they both continue their investigations. I can only tell them what I know and what is the truth," she said in the statement.

McAllister, who described Markoff as a "loving and caring person," said she expected to talk to investigators within the next several days and asked that her fiance's fate not be determined by the media and public opinion.

McAllister did not make reference to the wedding, and it was unclear whether cancellation of the band means the wedding is delayed or off.

Markoff was a second-year medical student at Boston University when he was arrested last week during a traffic stop as he drove to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. He is charged with murdering Julissa Brisman, a New York City resident, on April 14 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place hotel.

He also is charged in a robbery at a nearby hotel of another masseuse police say he met through the Craigslist classified ads Web site.

Quote

William Forte, the keyboardist and owner of the Bstreetband, said a relative of McAllister called him and said 'that as of right now, there is no way they will be able to have the Aug. 14 wedding date.'

He has pleaded not guilty.

Attorney John Salsberg, appointed to represent Markoff last week, has said Markoff is innocent of the charges.

Authorities continue to investigate Markoff to determine whether there are other possible charges.

A law enforcement official said Friday that Markoff's fingerprint was found on a wall of the Holiday Inn Express in Warwick, R.I., where a stripper from Las Vegas has said she was tied up and held at gunpoint by a man she met through the site. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case.

The official also said Markoff sent text messages from the hotel but said he didn't have information about what he said or to whom he wrote. Markoff has not been charged in Rhode Island.

According to court papers, Markoff owes $130,000 in student loans, which is not unusual for a medical student.

He does not get money from his parents and has been unemployed for a while making him eligible for an appointed attorney paid through public funds, court documents showed.

"(Markoff) stated he did not receive financial support from his family," said an April 23 document signed by a probation officer. "(Markoff) further stated he was unemployed for a lengthy period of time and was essentially living off student loans in the amount of $130,000."

FYI for the first comment. The blushing bride-to-be is a med student herself, so her bagging a doctor is sort of moot. Posted by Nothing_Surprises_Me at 11:38 AM : Apr 28, 2009

Actually the first point isn't sorta moot. This would have been the American dream for her since they both were Drs in training. This facade/dream and public embarrassment suffered by Megan has her stuck in a situation of trying to figure out what to do now. This wifely standing by her man display isn't going to work because if she been doing this in their relationship, he wouldn't have been out looking erotic massages and strippers in the middle of the night. Other questions are did she know about Markoff's alleged gambling problem? Panty fetish? There's so many quirks about this case that it's going to sadly be a Lifetime Made for TV presentation before long.

There's a lesson here, if you ever plan on doing something hokey, don't leave any fingerprints around, wear some kind of gloves. And never ever, talk to the cops. That's what lawyers are for, let your lawyer do your talking.

Phil Markoff does not need a church minister. He could use a new attorney. Phil is facing life in prison. He should change his plea. The Police have convincing evidence that Phil perpetrated heinous acts against women. What Jury would allow a killer misogynist go free?

"OMG, they actually called off, delayed, re-scheduled the wedding. Woopty do, sorry to urinate on this match made in hell but HELLO, the groom is suspected of being a killer. Sorry princess....come out of the fairytale world and realize that your life may have been saved but this unfortunate event. The bride is obviously blinded by the fact that she nearly bagged herself a Doctor in training. Wake up and count your blessings that you're still above ground, can't say the same for those that are Markoff's victims."

Totally agree!

If they've announced the banns, I've got something to report about the prospective groom.

However, I'm willing to bet that Markhoff would have been the one to "bag" a doctor by her untimely death after he married her and taken out one of those million dollar life insurance policies out on her. She does seem rather delusional, though, maybe it's the shock of her ivory tower collapsing. Hopefully some day she'll realize how close she came to being one of his victims.

They could have lived happily ever after like Scott and Lacie Peterson.

I take it that if he'd just proven he was hopelessly addicted to paying for sex with strangers, and left it at that, the wedding would still be on.

I don't see the problem - the wedding need not have been cancelled. It could have gone on as scheduled, but with the minor substitution of the bride with some member of the Crips or Aryan Nation who is doing a long stretch in the joint. That way husband and ... er ... husband would be able to live together in wedded bliss. Oh rats, does NJ allow gay marriage, though?

Sloppy investigation???? He's on camera at the sences, he had the gun, he had personal items of the victims, he had computer evidence linking him with the victims. What do you need? - 1000 eye witnesses and 500 videos to not have reasonable doubt?

+ report abuse + permalink

What's been sloppy about this investigation so far? It sounds to me that their doing a thorough job to make sure this guy doesn't get to walk away from the charges. His fingerprints were found in the same room where one masseuse was staying at. One of victims clothes and flex cuffs used on all the victims were found in his home and they have video of him at every hotel the victims were attacked at. If anything is sloppy it's him not covering his tracks.

This is not news! I honestly don't care if the wedding between these two adults is going to happen or not. Why is it that the media feels that we need to know EVERY detail of EVERYONE'S life?

I think it's time someone turns the tables and starts revealing every detail of every reporter's and journalist's life and posting it publicly.

Perhaps then, we'd get some decency back in journalism and the news would be just that - news - not a gossip column in disguise.
