Stars galore from the "Star Trek" shows turned up at the fans' annual convention in Las Vegas.

(CBS/AP)  The new J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" movie premieres May 8, featuring a new crew, and an old favorite.

And Friday on The Early Show, the iconic series' newest prequel film trailer was introduced.

"(The new film will feature) a hot young crew," said co-anchor Julie Chen, adding that viewers might not recognize all the characters at first, but details like Spock's eyebrows are "unmistakable."

Early Show weather anchor Dave Price added that the movie looks as if it's trying to reach a new, younger demographic.

The trailer includes explosive visual effects, high impact music, and a re-imagined set.

Russ Mitchell, news anchor of The Early Show, said the movie looks "fantastic."

Fans who grew up with "Star Trek" like Price, who said he watched "Star Trek" with his "science fiction nut" father, will recognize Leonard Nimoy, who is reprising his role as Mr. Spock. After a 19-year absence, Nimoy appears opposite Zachary Quinto, who stars as a younger version of the half-Vulcan, half-human science officer.

The two-minute trailer clip also features the new actors in their iconic roles: Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, and Simon Pegg as Scotty.
