Julie Chen Is Expecting First Child

Early Show Co-Anchor Says She'll Continue Doing Show And Hosting "Big Brother"

  •  (CBS)

(CBS)  Julie Chen had a big announcement at the beginning of The Early Show Tuesday.

The show co-anchor told viewers she's pregnant with her first child.

Chen, who's married to CBS Corporation President And CEO Les Moonves, said, "I am expecting my first child."

Rubbing her tummy, Chen continued, "So it wasn't a big Sunday at the buffet table. I'm starting to show now! And my due date is Oct. 4. So, fingers crossed, and ... I'm not taking maternity leave from (the CBS show) "Big Brother," which she hosts. "I e-mailed my boss over there this weekend and I said, 'Don't worry. I can still do the show!" '

Chen even kidded that the headlines could read, " 'Big Brother' Gives Birth. Medical Miracle!" '

First off all Congratulations Julie! You look so beautiful pregnant! I guess some people dont understand that this day in age EVERYONE has to work...Well at least most people do. We are not all as well off as some or willing to sit home and collect a check every month like others just so we can stay home and raise our children. MILLIONS of parents have to work yet still find plenty of time to raise wonderful children. I applaud you for dedication to a career as well as motherhood!

All I know is that her hormones are kicking in. I was appalled when she called Susan Boyle a "****" on the morning show after she found out that she really had been kissed. Really Julie, A ****? That came out too quickly!

Not a fan of the Chenbot, and homewrecker or moonves either. He traded in his 'old' wife for a younger one. I despise men like him and women like her. An old man marrying a young chick and having a second family, that makes me see red. As far as the poor baby, it will probably be raised by a nanny. Actually I am surprised that Chen is willing to 'ruin' her figure with a pregnancy. I also think her attitude about mother hood is out of whack. I stayed at home with my baby for 7 years before I went on with my career. I get the feeling she is above it all marrying to the big boss and all. This morning she was HORRIBLE, she actually called Susan Boyle a ****! Hah who is the real **** here?

Congratulations was in order for Julie Chen yesterday morning. She and her husband, Les Moonves, are expecting their first child together....She commented that her mother asked if she was going to stay home to be with the baby....Her response, I thought, was disrespectful to those that have commited themselves to this profession.....motherhood. She said that her mother raised her to go to college and then to have a career....She was not giving it up! All my daughters are professional women....If they chose to work from home, or to take time at home with their babies, I would sing their praises...I thought she acted awful --and I will henceforth not watch this morning program. I wish her my blessings -- but, her attitude needs to be checked.

Congrats Julie! My husband and I saw you and Les at the Grammy's this past February and you both make a great looking couple. So happy to hear your news. Your remarks about "wasting your education" though were a little offensive but I am certain it was completely unintentional. Besides, you can't really speak about something until you are actually in that moment (assuming this is your first child). I can relate because before I had my son, I was a doctor and I heard much the same thing. The first year was the toughest, but I have to say, I finally ended up deciding to stay at home and have never looked back. I don't feel like I have wasted a thing. I don't know if you are planning on having any more children, I only have 1 because my husband is older than myself. He is successful enough to allow me to have the choice to stay at home and we both wanted our child to have at least 1 full-time parent. Cherish every moment Julie. It goes by unbelievably fast.
