(CBS/AP)  Police say a Colorado woman wrapped her boyfriend's dog in packing tape and stuck the animal upside down to a refrigerator because he wouldn't get rid of it.

Abby Toll was arrested Tuesday after police say she got into a fight with her boyfriend. She was charged with felony cruelty, drug possession and other counts and is free on $12,500 bond. She has declined to comment.

Toll's 21-year-old boyfriend, Bryan Beck, faces lesser charges including a misdemeanor cruelty count.

Police say Toll, 20, used packing tape to bind the legs, snout and tail of Beck's dog, Rex, a Japanese breed called a Shiba Inu. She told police she stuck the dog to the refrigerator because she was angry Beck wanted to keep it.

Toll also is accused of slapping Beck and throwing a vase and soda bottle at him. In addition, police say they found a trace amount of heroin in her possession at the jail, reports CBS-4 in Denver.

Rex was taken to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley with Toll's Chihuahua, which wasn't involved in the alleged abuse, reports CBS-4. The society said Thursday that Beck has signed over custody of Rex, and the dog will be put up for adoption after going through some training.

"Our training staff is working with him to get him over his fear issues, to get him more socialized with people so he can trust humans again," society CEO Lisa Pedersen said.

My dog ate cat poo out of the litter box early this morning. He then jumped up on my bed and vomited it up on my clean sheets. It was so gross and disgusting, I was traumatized for the whole day.

I need have the humane society put me into protective custody and soothe me so I can trust dogs again. TRUE STORY !

I made and account here just to comment on this story. Right up front I should state that although I have a regular job and a small property business on the side, I help my best friend maintain and operate a dog rescue operation that is funded out of her own pocket. I live with five of the 34 dogs that we have under our charge currently. We specialize in "special needs dogs" or dogs that have been abused. Unfortunately, poor little Rex would qualify for our shelter now. And for the record we are both politically conservative, I am male and she is female.

I will state this very clearly; if I caught this psycho moron doing this to one of my dogs she would be eating dinner through a straw in the hospital right now. I don't care if she is female. I would like to think that I would be able to refrain from anything more severe if for no other reason so that I could keep doing my work to help dogs like Rex, certainly not because I have any sympathy for her. I will take Rex's life over the life of the soulless cretin that almost tortured him to death any day.

I would also like to comment on some of the idiotic statements from this hamiltongrad. For one, I doubt very seriously that the sadistic dolt that committed this crime is some poor abused helpless female. More likely a spoiled psychopathic shrew with a Paris HIlton complex. I am sure i didn't read all her comments but I saw none that were sympathetic with poor Rex, just excuses for the evil dingbat that tortured him. But the money quote is this little gem :

"Her 'Boyfriend" may or may not be guilty of ABUSE, but we need a forum to find out and question him carefully."

So let me get this straight, in hamiltongrad's world the evil moron that almost tortured a puppy to death that belonged to her boyfriend wants to "question" the boyfriend to ascertain if he is some type of serial abuser. Just who would be in charge of this "questioning forum" hamiltongrad, hmmm? I think you should just let the authorities handle this don't you. How about this hamiltongrad, how about we question you on some "forum" so that we can ascertain if there is any grey matter at all inside that over educated Hamilton cranium of yours.

In closing, i will be watching this case to see if Rex gets the justice he deserves. That must be the most severe punishment that is possible under the law. It won't be enough but what else can we do without becoming outlaws ourselves.

Hey Hamilton Grad: I am a female. I don't care what has EVER happened to Toll in her life, there is no excuse for what she did. Shame on YOU for excusing her. You make all women look bad. Especially women who have truly been abused.

Maybe if people took more responsibility for their own actions and didn't try to blame others so much our society wouldn't be as pathetic as it is today.

You said that so well. I agree.

This lady should be thrown in Jail for life and treated the same way as the dog was. Any one who commits a crime should be treated the same way

Shiba: You need professional help.
The victim here is this poor girl, probably verbal abuse, sadness due to male dominance in our society. This was a call for help. And you and other men want to punish her even more. Shame.

I have a Shiba Inu. They are very intelligent and loving as are all dogs if trained correctly. I think that anyone who does something like this should be punished in a way that will make them remember what they did. How about burning her with scalding water, kicking her, beating her, berating her, not feeding her or giving her water, then wrap her in packaging tape and dangle her on the top of a 10 story building and see how she likes it. You know, just to make an example out of her like she did with this poor dog...

Erasmus. Men are never abused by women. Never.

Posted by hamiltongrad at 4:23 PM : Apr 19, 2009

You are WRONG. A lot of men do not come forward and say anything, and the ones that do are not taken seriously.

There are men that have been raped by women. And of course people think "hahahaha, yeah right!" YEAH, RIGHT! Think it can't be done?

Some women can be nasty little b*tches if they don't get their way.

Not me, of course. : )
