BTW, to anybody who is still suffering heartburn over their Christian beliefs versus Harry Potter, I would recommend you check out a wonder paper entitled "Harry Potter and the Inklings: The Christian Meaning of The Chamber of Secrets," by John Granger, which you can find here: http://www.george-macdonald.com/harry_potter_granger.htm. There is a sizable body of literature on the Christian allegory of the HP series, and some of it is very persuasive. I admit I'm a bit confused over the fact that there is all sorts of hocus pocus in much of C. S. Lewis' writings and yet he is regarded as one of the foremost Christian writers of the 20th Century, yet the obvious Christian allegory in HP is disregarded. What am I missing?

I for one am puke sick of inept, mediocre directors taking "artistic liberties" with the Harry Potter series. If they so long to be authors, let them buy a typewriter and pound one out. And good luck topping what Ms. Rowling has done. While people are still scratching their heads over these goofballs' choices in what to do with a scene, scholarly papers will still be being written about the classical, biblical, Shakespearean, and other influences in Harry Potter, a body of masterful work that places its author among the rank of the Inklings. Perhaps one day, a director with more sensitivity and intelligence and less ego will re-make the entire series.

I'm often amused by references to Leviticus. They're invariably cherry-picked. I''ve never heard of any Christian obeying all the dietary laws etc.
And when was the last time anyone attended a ceremonial burnt offering, other than occasionally at a church supper?

You know ... according to Conservative Christian Scholars - Jesus was born in a time when "magic" and "witchcraft" ran rampant - and He, Himself, was considered to be a magician, performing miracles that were commonplace in His time.

So what does that say about the last four hundred years of society - not believing in miracles and magic, and condemning anyone who says that they believe and even try to practice in it?

People still get stoned today by people who think they can judge others (usually women). It's called lapidation and it's alive and well in the Middle East, despite Jesus' teachings about 'not throwing the first stone unless you're without sin'.

And the point is........?

Leviticus 6:27 "A man or a woman who is a medium or a wizard shall be put to death; They shall be stoned with stones, their blood shall be upon them."

But in reality, the only thing funnier is the fact that there are actually folks who won't let their children watch Harry potter or read the books because they have been told by their preacher that it is evil.

Leviticus 6:27 "A man or a woman who is a medium or a wizard shall be put to death; They shall be stoned with stones, their blood shall be upon them."

Mrs-entity, I consider myself a Christian (albeit a learning one) but having read and loved all of the Potter books, I can tell you they are a lesson in the power of Good and the power of Evil and each person's individual choice over which to 'practice'. It's all in the interpretation.

Harry Potter practices witchcraft and therefore does not make appropriate Christian viewing.
