(CBS/ AP)  A higher-than-expected turnout at a New Hampshire job fair has forced organizers to turn away throngs of job seekers.

More than 10,000 people showed up Thursday for the event at Southern New Hampshire University's athletic complex in Manchester. The job fair had been heavily promoted on television, but organizers expected just 5,000 participants.

Traffic was backed up for miles and quickly filled the 3,000-car Mall of New Hampshire parking lot, which was being used as a shuttle-bus pickup hub.

Officials say 1,300 people, many of them dressed in business suits, entered the job fair within the first hour. The event began at 10 a.m. and was supposed to run until 3 p.m.

CBS station WBZ in Boston reported that by 12:30 p.m. organizers had to shut it down because they were overwhelmed by the turnout.

"We have stopped the number of job seekers who can come to campus because of capacity," said SNHU spokesman Gregg Mazzola. "It's a safety issue."

"(Turnout) runs the gamut, old, young, black, white. I don't think this economy has any gender barriers, age barriers, ethnic barriers," Mazzola told WBZ.

Judd Gregg leaving Congress and taking the meaningless position at Commerce would have increased the Democrats influence in Congress. He did the right thing and should be applauded for speaking out against the fraud currently being subsidized by taxpayers. Legislation is passed without reading it??? America demand its repeal. No where else in any business would such an absurd approach to finance be allowed. FIRE those who voted for the spending bill. Obama should have vetoed it but lacks the experience and ability to provide leadership. God help us all.

The assumption is all these people are unemployed and that their unemployment is the result of Bush's administration. A Democratic Congress has been passing the laws and creating the budgets and ignored Bush's call for action starting in 2001 to pay attention to Freddie and Fannie -- thank Barney Frank, Nancy pelosi, and Harry Reid for ignoring all the warnings. What percentage of those attending were hoping for better employment opportunities? Responsible journalism demands accuracy not speculation in reporting the news. How many attendees at this job fair came from MA which has been bankrupted by the policies of mandatory health care and entitlement spending? The people who need to find new jobs are in Congress.

When Walmart and the Dollar Stores' junk has taken over the world like it has, there is no surprise that this has happened. Remember the "Union Label" when clothes were made here? Did you ever have a car actually made in the USA? My GM car was made in Mexico and Canada. When was the last time you spoke to a customer service rep you could understand? Many, including myself, believes that we can never turn back after our government has sold our industry to the world and now we are dependent on THEM to take care of us and provide us with our needs. While we sit and get fatter and fatter, their wallets keep pace. Wake up people.

So much for the argument that we need illegal Mexican aliens because there are not Americans available for the jobs. Getting rid of 20 million illegals would go a long way towards putting Americans back to work.

By the way, I love reading the posts put fourth by the Obama haters. True, it is pathetic prattle, but good for a laugh to start the day. Interesting, though, that their posts never bear any relevance to the article they are posting under. A paradox that they have the ability to write, but evidently not read.

Become strong again in spirit, strong in will, strong in endurance, strong to bear all sacrifices

This quote has not been lost to the past but put aside until thought valid again!

Question is, who said it ?

Amnesty is a legislative or executive act by which a state restores those who may have been guilty of an offense against it to the positions of innocent persons.

This will not fix our current jobs situation but it will give Obama a chance to fix it in his next term.

This has the potential to add more then 20 million democratic votes to the rosters.

And will put Americans back to work building the needed infrastructure to cope with the influx in needed teachers and police force.

Besides why do the people at this fair need work when all of them qualify for food stamps and unemployment?

This is really pathetic.

Making the rich pay for everything is wrong. When they are taxed unmercifully and they close their businesses we will get exactly this. All munchikins....take note: IT WILL GET WORSE WITH SOCIALISM!

You do not understand Progressive Taxation.

"HAPPINESS, moral duty, and a progressive income tax are inseparably connected."

-- George Washington

"I only regret that I have but a small percentage of my income to give for my country."

-- Nathan Hale

"WHEN in the course of Human Events, it becomes necessary to fund a Welfare State, he that has the most to give, should provide the greatest proportion of his Income."

"THE Tree of Liberty is a fragile one. Its Roots must occasionally be watered by soaking the Rich."

-- Thomas Jefferson

"THESE are the times that try men's souls. The wealthy summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country, by refusing to pay their fair, high share of taxes."

-- Tom Paine

"THE advancement and profusion of an extremely progressive income tax is the only guardian of true liberty. "

-- James Madison

Proof positive that the practice of importing foreign labor under the various guest worker programs is unnecessary and a slap in the face to every citizen that wants a job and can't find one.

Ok, my bad, here's a tip: there is a new demand in Vermont for gay marriage ministers!

You know, a job fair is really a ridiculous idea. You just herd people in like cattle, give them the once over, and then hire them? Trust me when I tell you, most jobs that you would want to have are not advertised through job fairs.
