The full lineup for the 10-day festival, which begins May 13, will not be announced until April 23. The Pixar animated film "Up" will open the film festival, it was announced last month.
Written and directed by Tarantino, "Inglorious Basterds" follows a band of Jewish-American soldiers in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. In addition to Pitt and Kruger, it stars Samuel L. Jackson, Mike Myers and Cloris Leachman. It is not scheduled for theatrical release until August.
Tarantino won the Palme D’Or at Cannes for the 1994 film "Pulp Fiction." His movies "Reservoir Dogs" and "Death Proof" also competed at Cannes, and the director served as president of the festival jury in 2004.Photos: Brad Pitt

Pitt, nominated for an Oscar this year for his role in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," is no newcomer to Cannes. He has promoted his movies "Troy," "Ocean’s Thirteen" and "Burn After Reading" there and last year, accompanied partner Angelina Jolie who was promoting her films "Kung-Fu Panda" and "Changeling."
