Profile:


Shaun Donovan was confirmed as President Obama's Secretary of Housing and Urban Devlopment (HUD) on January 22, 2009. As secretary, Donovan has pledged to work with the Treasury Department and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to stabilize housing markets and address the foreclosure crisis.



Donovan, 43, previously headed New York City's Department of Housing Preservation and Development, before taking a leave of absence to campaign for Mr. Obama. In that position, Donovan was tasked with building and preserving 165,000 units of affordable housing for 500,000 New Yorkers.



Donovan has extensive experience in the affordable housing field, having served as managing director of Prudential Mortgage Capital Company for Federal Housing Administration lending and affordable housing investments. Prior to working at Prudential, Donovan was a visiting scholar at New York University, where he researched federally assisted housing. Previous service at HUD includes a stint as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Multifamily Housing.



Donovan has master's degrees in public administration and architecture from Harvard University. He holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard.
