Stem Cell Focus Part Of New Harvard Major

(AP)  Harvard University has approved a new undergraduate major focusing on stem cells and other related areas of biology, one day after President Barack Obama lifted federal restrictions on stem cell research.

The major - called Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology - also will include classes on human disease, experimental and human genetics and aging.

Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences approved the major Tuesday.

Bill Anderson, a lecturer in stem cell and regenerative biology, says the major will allow students "to study biological processes through the lens of developing humans." He said stems cells would be a component of that.

Harvard has been one of the leaders in stem cell research, raising private funds to support the work.

The only reason to explore stem cell treatment is that the rest of the world is exploring the subject and America cannot afford fall behind on the research. The research suggest some great possibilities, but truly money is the major motivation

EMBRYONIC stem cells have cured NOTHING! There have been some break-throughs with adult stem cells but not embryonic cells. Isn't it interesting that there are federal laws that protect fish embryos but we are now federally funding the killing of human embryos! And even more interesting is that Harvard...Obama's Alma Mater...is getting a goodly chunk of federal funds (your tax money and mine) to fund this research! If in eight years they couldn't make any headways with this research, what was missing....federal funds? Oh yeah! That'll improve everything! Especially the life style of the researchers!

Soooooo, are you against fertility clinics...that give life?? Because all fertility clinics destroy hundreds of viable embryos every day because they make more than can be implanted. So your basically saying that recycling to save the planet is wrong too, cause thats basically all this is. The embryos are going to be put in the trash anyway, why not use them to cure a disease. Maybe there hasn't been enough testing because there hasn't been enough FUNDING

Thousands of couples would love to have a child of their own and turn to fertility clinics, but those who adopt are richly blessed also. How about we stop aborting babies and instead, put them up for adoption? A Kansas City laboratory spent more money than you and I will ever make in a lifetime pushing for the passing of an embryonic stem cell research issue a couple of years ago. It lost. No business spends that kind of money on an issue unless they expect to recover that investment BIG TIME! I wonder how much they gave to the Obama campaign to get this pushed through over the will of the people?
By the way, with regard to recycling...a human life is not exactly the same as a plastic bottle....at least not to me it isn't!

"...Makes you wonder how all those medical miracles of the past occured without taxpayer funding. Madam Curie, polio, tuberculosis? Jerry Lewis must be wondering why he's killing himself trying to raise money...."

Those were the low-hanging fruit. Lots more people died of tuberculosis in history than of cancer. It was only when we got those diseases under control that people started dying of the other diseases. That's why the life expectancy rate today is higher.

"The life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short" --- Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes, 1651.

Would you like to return to that?

There are 100's of scientific studies that have been done on AFA and our product StemEnhance. There are also 100's of scientific papers on Adult Stem Cell therapy. I have listed quite a few on my blog that you can read at www.phyl247.biz You can also find the book over at ********** that Christian Drapeau wrote. It is called "The Stem Cell Theory of Renewal" Take a look if you would like to talk feel free to email or call me anytime 877-696-8581

Embryonic stem cell research has been outdated since 1997...why do you think Bush didn't think we should be throwing money at it?

Embryonic stem cells have been replaced already with adult skin cells and umbilical cord stem cells which don't mutate, morf into tumors, or require extreme amounts of anti rejection medication.

Comrade Obama's throwing money at it is stupid and simply a political statement of contempt against the former administration.

When is this immature idiot going to GROW UP!

Bone marrow transplants and organ transplants require anti regection medication too. Are those stupid? Plus...it does work. Read the previously refferenced article and get a clue.

Unless I have missed something there is absolutely no proof that stem cells cure anything. This has been another boondoggle to get money so that these Scientist can sit on their cans and not work.

dmw1167...obviously you are not very educated in this subject. I have a friend here at work whose wife has been battling cancer for the past two years. Recently she underwent stem cell replacement. Finally she is showing significant signs of improvement.

Harvard like our young President is moving forward and with the results of the blind American girl going to China and regaining her eyesight not even the most conservative thinker can argue with this. There is hope for millions of American and we must move forward and not back to 1997. Posted by Baileyccc
