(AP)  An explosion rocked a Massachusetts animal hospital before a fire erupted, but a veterinarian has saved most of the dogs by busting open their kennel so they could run out.

There are no reports of injuries to people.

Fire Chief John Farrington says about 12 dogs were rescued from the Cape Cod Animal Hospital but a few animals are missing. He doesn't know how many were in the building in Barnstable, about 5 miles north of the Kennedy family's Hyannis Port home.

Neighbor Ken Lacasse tells the Cape Cod Times vet Scott Munson broke the kennel door with a cinder block.

Firefighters say Monday night's explosion came 20 minutes after area residents reported their lights had dimmed. Investigators are trying to determine if natural gas caused the blast.

Representatives of the National Grid utility rushed to the scene. So did people trying to find their pets.

I thought it to be a well-wriiten news report, period. Incicental mention of clinic's proximity to the Kennedy's Hyannis Port home serves to instantly identify the approximate area.
The Kennedys are the most prominent American political family of the past several decades, and 3 sons of patriarch Joseph Kennedy have given their lives in service to this nation. The location of their home is a sinmply a well-known fact.
Many people, like myself, hve quit buying daily newspapers as a matter of thrift, and the mere fact we can monitor a large number of newspapers Online , without the newspapers stacking up.
Now be a good sore-head, go find something more sensible to rant about.

So glad that the vet was able to free most of the dogs! Kudos to him!!!

Shame on the AP writer who wrote this story, and shame on the AP editor who allowed it to go to print!!! What in the world does "the Kennedy family's Hyannis Port home" have to do with any part of this story? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! Does the journalist think that we are going to believe him to be a better writer just because he was able to sprinkle in that little bit of completely useless information??? This is an example of why newspapers are going out of business! Bad writing... bad editing... just bad!!!
