by jacktaugust March 12, 2009 3:37 PM EDT: Tax Question: I am the chef of a resturant in Kansas City where an employee of mine got arested by the Imagration Srevice. I posted a $7,000.00 security bond with the I.N.S. in order to get him released from custody. He breached the bond and the I.N.S. kept the $7,000.00 bond but did send me a check for $252.00 intrest. My question is can I deduct the $7,000.00 from my taxes seeing as the money went to the federal government rather than a state agency and do I have to claim the $252.00 intrest as a capitol gain; Reply to this comment

by okgrannyu50 March 12, 2009 12:17 PM EDT: I did not get a stimulus check last year because I did not meet the income requirements. I receive Social Security, and now I have met the income guide. Can I receive a check ? What do I have to do in order to get the check?
Please help.

by kleebird March 12, 2009 12:16 PM EDT: In 2008 I received an inheritance from my mother. A portion of it was from an annuity that earned $17,000 while she was still alive. Since I was the only dependent, and the disbursement check was written out to me, the 1099 was also written out to my name showing the interest earned and that I must report as interest earned on my return.
My question is-can I file a final estate return (she had a trust) in her name showing that interest, based on her income, rather than put it on my return, so as to not increase my total income for the year, and I also might be able to pay at a lower tax rate?; Reply to this comment

The Stimulous Check you were talking about earlier! Is that for self employed also and how do I get it?

by leecyril March 12, 2009 11:36 AM EDT: Our son Sean is 26 and we support him and claimed him on our taxes. For 2008 we let him claim himself so he could get a stimulus check. He still lives with us and we support him, what will be the outcome for him and us?; Reply to this comment


by punkin62 March 12, 2009 11:04 AM EDT: Tax Question. I have a friend that has a loss on stocks in 2007 but the 1099 div did not come in until after they filed his taxes for 2007.. Does he have to ammend his 2007 tax return?
Or, can he put the loss from 2007 on his 2008 return along with his loss on the same stock for 2008?

Some monies were from an annuity and some from CD's. My friend is confused and as asked for my advice since I do my own taxes.
