    Demanding greater transparency in the school's finances, student protestors barricade themselves into the student union cafeteria at New York University, Feb. 19, 2009.  (Take Back NYU!)

(AP)  Dozens of students have barricaded themselves inside of New York University's student union cafeteria to demand increased transparency of the school's finances.

The protest began about 10 p.m. Wednesday when students from various city universities gathered inside the cafeteria of the Helen & Martin Kimmel Center for University Life.

Members of the coalition called Take Back NYU! pushed tables and chairs against the doors. A supporter said about 60 students were involved.

In a list of demands posted on a Web site, the students called for the university to release information on staff salaries and financial aid.

NYU spokesman John Beckman says the group's calls for the release of salary information is "not a reasonable request."

He said the university gives students "countless opportunities for dialogue and even protest."

Obviously, these students don''t have majors that will be worth anything after they graduate. If they did, they would be studying for that major right now.

======

Yeah -- the only people you see out protesting are people who don't have jobs! Some of us go to work every day!

Taken directly for their website:

"Are there any precedents for budget disclosure?

Yes! Every public institution, including public universities, are required by law to fully disclose their operating budgets. Additionally, the trend in the global economic market has been towards full disclosure. Companies realize that transparency leads to good (i.e. profitable) business practices."

True, except NYU is a "PRIVATE" university (LOOLOLOLOL)! These so-called activists don't even know the basics of the establishing they are protesting against.

These activists fail at their argument and I am now convinced they don't have the mental capacity to even work at Starbucks.

Let them have their "Living-in-the-60s" moment. It would be the highlight of their life before they have to look for careers working at Starbucks after they leave college.

As a university employee (not NYU), I agree that release of my (their) salary information isn't a reasonable request.

This is great - I hope the students stay barricaded. And RE: their requests for staff salary info - they have every right to know how much people make because the student's tuition and fees pay for them.

Shades of the Sixties - y'all NYU students keep on keepin' on. RIGHT ON!
