Cartoon Appears To Link Obama, Dead Chimp
N.Y. Post's Mix Of Ape And Stimulus Package Called "Troubling" By Rev. Sharpton

The Rev. Al Sharpton says a New York Post cartoon that appears to link President Barack Obama to a violent chimpanzee is "troubling at best."
The cartoon in Wednesday's Post by Sean Delonas shows a dead chimp and two police officers, one with a smoking gun.
The caption reads, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."
The cartoon refers to Travis the chimp, who was shot to death by police in Stamford, Connecticut, on Monday after it mauled a friend of its owner.
It links the chimp to Obama, who signed his administration's economic stimulus plan on Tuesday.
Sharpton called the cartoon offensive and divisive.
The Post had no immediate comment.

- Oh, look! I found something else racist in the cartoon.
On the vehicles parked at the curb, we can clearly see the tire of one of the cars.
The tire is black. So, well there you have it. It's racist.
Let's call Al Sharpton.....
NOT!!!!
This whole controversy is ridiculous. - Reply to this comment
- There would still be only ONE goat.

But the cartoon would still be about shooting the president.
Why would the police just shoot the president?
No reason is given that would explain that.
It just doesn't make any sense.
OK, suppose there was a news story about the police shooting a goat someplace for some reason.
Now would they make a cartoon about shooting the goat and saying "Who will write the next executive order?"
See. It just doesn't work. - Reply to this comment
- When is racist Al Sharpton going to stick up for the cops? It is terrible that Caucasian Cops are depicted as trigger happy. If Ol' Al assimilates himself so closely with the chimp, he should be willing to take its place.

- You can deny the "racism" part if it makes you feel better. BUT the fact remains that the cartoon is VERY inappropriate! You can replace the monkey with a goat, but it doesn't change anything. There would still be only ONE goat. And the caption would still read: "They'll need to find SOMEONE ELSE to write the stimulus bill." And who is behind the stimulus bill?
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Without him, it wouldn't have been written! Who do the Republicans blame for that stimulus bill? OBAMA! They aren't even thinking about who ACTUALLY wrote it. To them, it was OBAMA. - Reply to this comment
- Like always here is Al Sharpon make noise over nothing that has nothing to do with racism, the fact to the matter is that there was nothing wrong with the cartoon but when you have Al sharpon with a stick hitting a hornets nest of course someone has to get bite..
Way to go Al, here is another way to make peace on earth. Your not even a real REV..

- Here we go again with the selective outrage.
Where was the media, al sharpton and everyone else when the LA TIMES ran an editorial of Condi rice sitting on a porch, dressed in "gone with the wind" type clothes using "uneducated slave dialect".
If this does not prove the media bias, selective outrage and double-standard that exists out there. I dont know what will!!!! - Reply to this comment
- The cartoon is harmless. The only reason is SEEMS racist to its critics is because they are racists and that is how they see/define everything.

- Does anybody remember the Tawana Brawley story?
Al Sharpton was involved.
It turned out to be a hoax.
I think we should be careful about listening to Al Sharpton too much. - Reply to this comment
- OMG, heres another raciest supporter. It's not who wrote it, it's the underlying meaning.

- Hey you race-baiting libs...lest you forget, Obama didn't write the stimulus bill. Pelosi, Reid and their buddies did. To Obama's credit, in this case, he probably didn't even read the *** thing!

- It is appalling that you think we should continue to accept police brutality, racial discrimination and racial slander. It is no longer the shrouded days of the good old boys and we are not going to tolerate it any longer. Bush's depictions were directly related to his poor decisions not the color of his skin or ethnic background.

- (rm) You missed the point, read the previous blogs stupid. When bush is depicted its not racial, but with Obama it is. It is not different when we do it, because it is not us doing the slander. It is the white media. Go back under the mountain rock you cralwled from under dumb A"".

- When Bush was being depicted as a chimp it was not a racial slur idiot. This is a raciest cartoon point blank, and all those tying to smooth the situation over are raciest as well. It kills me when individuals (and we can say pretty much what your ethnicity is) are so quick to turn the tables and discredit racist remarks and satire in the media. Racism has no place in the world and all that try to cover the real intention of racist statements are not fooling anyone.

- Has everyone forgotten that George Bush was often depicted as a chimp yet no one ever complained about that?
The fact people complained when Barack Obama is depicted as a chimp but didn't when George Bush was is the true racism here. - Reply to this comment
- These poor chimpanzees just get no respect.

"Really? Do you think I could come to your neighborhood and hop, skip, and jump down your street in the middle of the night?"
No problemo.
"None of your neighbors will mind, will they."
Nope. As long as you didn't wake them up.
"On the way back, I''ll knock on their doors and introduce myself as your friend."
Don't be silly. They wouldn't believe that some whacko, hop, skipping and jumping down the street, would be a friend of mine.:)
"I''m sure NONE of them will shoot at me because you say there are no guns in Canada."
That's EXACTLY right. The vast majority of people do NOT own guns. I know of no one that owns a gun. I could guarantee you that if you ran down the street hollering and screaming, no one would shoot you. They would probably phone the cops and they might shoot you, but unlikely. Unless you had a gun. And in most instances, that would be very unlikely. - Reply to this comment

- This is just another cartoon from a guy who always pushes the boundaries, it's no isolated incident. Reverend Al, please go do something productive for a change.

- A provocative political statement perhaps...but a racist cartoon, I personally don%u2019t think so. Did anyone notice the %u201CBeware of the Dog%u201D sign on the telephone pole? Pelosi, Reed, and a number of other Democrats wrote the bill, not Obama. When you consider the present economic mess the US faces in combination with the current political environment (It%u2019s all the Republicans fault, the Democrats will rescue us.) I believe the %u201Cchimp%u201D in this parody represents the Democrats and the unseen dog referenced to in the %u201Cbeware of the dog sign%u201D represents the Republicans. Looks like the artist doesn%u2019t approve of the stimulus bill, perhaps believes the bill will harm the US, and thinks we should get rid of those members of congress who wrote and supported it. With the medias help we seem to have become a nation of people who prefer to focus on the trivial news (a political cartoon with a monkey, and a single mom with 14 children) while ignoring the more important issues.
