Canadian Man Sentenced To Life For Killing Baby

Canadian Man Sentenced To Life For Strangling And Decapitating His 2-year-old Daughter

(AP)  A Canadian man who pleaded guilty to strangling and then decapitating his 2-year-old daughter was sentenced to life in prison Friday.

Lakvinder Singh Kahlon, 48, will not be eligible for parole for 11 years, British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Arne Silverman said. The judge called the killing "an incomprehensible tragedy" for Kahlon's wife and two other daughters, ages 13 and 10.

Kahlon admitted to second-degree murder last week. His daughter, Rajvinder, was found murdered in the family home in Delta, B.C., on Jan. 18, 2008.

A psychiatrist, Dr. Shabehram Lohrasbe, testified that Kahlon was severely depressed before the slaying and was being treated with anti-depressants and anti-psychotic medication. Kahlon had seen his psychiatrist only two days before he killed his daughter, Lohrasbe said.

As the defendant sat with his head bowed, Silverman recognized Kahlon's mental instability, but said the father was criminally responsible for the crime.

The court was told Kahlon had no prior criminal record and no previous history of family violence.
