(CBS)  Kevin Connolly is best known as part of California's coolest male posse on the TV series "Entourage." Now he's a guy giving and getting mixed signals in the film "He's Just Not That Into You."

"What was your reaction when you got the script in front of you that you were doing a film based on a female self-help book?" asked Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen.

"When I first got the script, I got on the phone with my agent and said 'How can I get in this movie?' There were great people attached from the beginning. I was lucky to be part of it," Connolly said.

The star-studded cast includes Ben Affleck, Jennifer Anniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long.

Although most of Connolly's scenes were with Scarlett Johansson or Justin Long, the "Entourage" star isn't complaining.

"Anybody in the cast you wish had you scenes with when you first got the script?" Chen asked.

"Jennifer Anniston would have been nice to have a few scenes with, she's fantastic and Jennifer Connelly, I am a big fan of too. But I pretty lucky. Scarlet, Drew, Ginny Goodwin and Justin Long, people I got to act with. I was fortunate," he said.

"Did you learn anything about women or about dating?" she asked.

"I don't know that I learned anything. I became aware of certain things," he admitted. "I knew that women tend to overanalyze certain situations, but this movie really made that perfectly clear about times and what time you call and how long to wait and all that kind of thing."

Connolly admitted that the overanalyzing is not just exaggeration that women have, but men possess as well.

"Guys do it to a point. Maybe not as much as women, but they do," he said.

"What other men secrets do you have for us?" Chen inquired.

"Men actually probably overanalyze things more than they would ever want to admit," Connolly said.

With his mother watching the show from Long Island, NY, Connolly treaded the waters carefully with his answers.

"Did she give you tips on women?" Chen asked.

"Not really. I think my mom always just said that I need to be a better communicator. Which is pretty good advice I guess," he said. "She doesn't get too far into it - thank God!"

"What is the biggest dating disaster you've had?" Chen asked.

"I've had a few disasters. One disaster I tell people, I had met this girl, and I asked her out, took her out on a date. And one of the first things she said to me when she got into the car is that she had never seen 'Entourage.' Over the course of the date, she called me Eric like three times, which was kind of a sign maybe she was lying or something," he said. "It was awkward. Especially since I'm then thinking I'm going to have to tell her that's not my name."

Ultimately Connolly had to tell her his real name later on in the date, which he considered "a disaster."

"I think she felt pretty stupid. Ultimately, she admitted it. I didn't know what to say. I figure girls say that to you. She was trying to be different. But it made for an awkward dinner," he said.

Anxious "Entourage" fans need not to worry, season 6 will start shooting on March 10. "It's a good season. Certainly Vince is back, his career is back." he said. "We're working through our differences."

"He's Just Not That Into You" opens nationwide on Friday, Feb. 6.
