Whatever happened to the neighbor who accidentally ran over and killed the mobster's 12-year-old son Frankie - and then vanished?
The answer may be found in Brooklyn court papers filed this week by federal prosecutors.
They say John Favara was shot to death on orders of the outraged Gambino crime family boss - and his body was dissolved in a vat of acid.
Prosecutors say a cooperating witness has fingered a 62-year-old former mobster as the perpetrator in the 1980 affair.
The court papers are related to an upcoming racketeering trial.
The story of Favara's untimely demise is revealed in court papers filed in the upcoming racketeering trial of reputed Gambino soldier Charles Carneglia, according to The New York Daily News.
Authorities have long believed Carneglia to be responsible for disposing of Favara's body after he was shot in March 1980 on Gotti's orders, the Daily News reported. Favara's body has never been found.
Carneglia told a fellow gangster, now a government witness, that he got rid of the body by putting it in a barrel of acid, Assistant Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Roger Burlingame told the newspaper.

- The story makes for interesting reading, but without a vat of acid with trace elements of DNA or something more than the verbal account of another person, there is no case. We all figure Jimmy Hoffa was ground up and served as dog food too, but short of evidence in a dog ***, we and the hundreds of people who have investigated that mystery have buttkisss. Why not wait until the DA has more than hearsay and conjecture before writing a story on it?

But you did read the story and felt compelled to post a comment. Not so good of a Christian, I see. Probably that ''gop'' person and/or ''Mrs Premise''...just changed log in names yet again but preaching the same lame blogs.
Going back to 1980? This guy was really grasping at straws to get less time for his own crime. And Gotti is an easy target for those who get caught and want to roll over. - Reply to this comment
- rushlimpdrug: you should be so lucky to live next door to these killers. Maybe you would enjoy a dip into a pool of acid. You better try some different kool aid. The stuff you currently drink must be stupid juice.

You turn informant, or get convicted of something that will put you away for 100 years. - Reply to this comment

How do you become a "former" mobster?
Do they put you on an inactive roster?
Do you open mobster camps where kids can come and work with retired mobsters to improve their "hits"?
Once you retire from the mob, if you whack someone can you still be paid at standard mob rates or does that affect your pension?
And, how long do you have to be out of the mob before you are eligible for the hall of fame? - Reply to this comment

.......................
Because people want them and the media''s business is giving people what they want. People couldn''t get enough of the Sopranos and Growing Up Gotti and the media responded with more and more shows about the Mafia.
If you watch "Dallas" the media will give you "Dynasty", then "Knot''s Landing", then "Falcon Crest", by the time someone gets down to mocking the whole thing with "Soap" the public gets tired of it and they start over again with something else. Right now its the mafia and reality shows, Britney Spears and Linsey Lohan. This too shall pass. - Reply to this comment
- Too bad FloydZepp doesn''t fall into a vat of acid. That would only be an improvement in him.
