Golden Globes To Bring Back Glitz

Dinner Ceremony Resumes After A One-Year Hiatus

(CBS)  In terms of glitz and glamour, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has a lot to make up for when it hands out its annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Last year’s televised dinner ceremony was cancelled when striking writers threatened to picket and stars were talking about a boycott. In its place, the HFPA held a low-wattage press conference at which it announced the winners.

So this year, it’s time to bring back the old red-carpet magic with A-list presenters, a new statuette and a lot of fresh faces.

The Jonas Brothers, Hayden Panettiere and Martin Scorsese have just been added to a long list of stars who will present awards at The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton. It will be broadcast live on NBC.

Already signed up to present were Simon Baker, Drew Barrymore, Glenn Close, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cameron Diaz, Aaron Eckhart, Laurence Fishburne, Ricky Gervais, Jake Gyllenhaal, Salma Hayek, Jessica Lange, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock and Seth Rogen. Baker took home a People’s Choice award for favorite new TV drama ("The Mentalist") earlier this week.

Rumer Willis, who was scheduled to be Miss Golden Globe at last year’s event, gets the same honor this year. She is the daughter of actress Demi Moore and actor Bruce Willis.

Among the children of stars who have served in that role in previous years are Lorraine Nicholson (Jack Nicholson), Dakota Johnson (Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson), Kathryn Eastwood (Clint Eastwood) and Lily Costner (Kevin Costner). There have been a few Mr. Golden Globes, too, including Freddie Prinze Jr., John Clark Gable (Clark Gable) and Dominik Garcia-Lorido (Andy Garcia).

This year's awards will also feature a just-unveiled new statuette with a redesigned globe, restructured base and new velvet-lined display box.

There are several newcomers on the list of nominees including Frank Langella and Mickey Rourke, best actor nominees; Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, best supporting actor nominees; Anne Hathaway, best actress nominee; Rebecca Hall and Sally Hawkins, best supporting actress nominees; and Danny Boyle and David Fincher, best director nominees.

But not all the nominees are new ones. This year’s list includes Meryl Streep, who has won six Golden Globes, and Dustin Hoffman, who has won five Golden Globes. Other previous winners among this year’s nominees include Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Emma Thompson.
