In the midst of the nationwide frenzy surrounding the highly anticipated release of the Batman summer blockbuster, "The Dark Knight," Katie Couric reminds us that it is, after all, just a movie.

(CBS/ AP)  The radiant Queen Latifah lit up the 35th annual People's Choice Awards with her golden locks and energetic personality, making her the Queen Bee of the night.

But it was "The Dark Knight" that stole the show. The caped crusader flick won all five awards for which it was nominated, including favorite cast, superhero, action movie and the on-screen matchup of Christian Bale's Batman and Heath Ledger's Joker.

"On behalf of all of the cast from the movie, thank you very much to the fans," said Bale. "Here's to Heath."

"The answer tonight is 'Yes, we can!'" Latifah said as she opened the show.

Latifah got comedic actors Adam Sandler and Robin Williams to praise the people with their funny take on the refrain "Yes, we can."

In true Ellen DeGeneres style, the spunky talk show host arrived in stage with the "Apple Bottom Jeans" rap song, proving that -- yes, she can dance.

"I wish I could share this with you," DeGeneres told the audience while clutching her trophy for favorite talk show host. "I could throw it on the ground and smash it into a million pieces, and give each one of you a little piece of it, but that's violent, and that's probably why you voted for me, because I'm not violent."

Carrie Underwood, a vision in green, showed off her vocal range with a strong performance. She credited her fans for her success as well as her wins for favorite female singer, favorite country song, "Last Name" and favorite star under 35.

Singers Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown won for favorite combined forces for "No Air."

"Oh wow! First award show that they aired my award. I feel like I am on 'Idol' again for some reason," Sparks, a former "American Idol contestant, joked.

Brown, speaking via satelliete from Dublin, thanked Sparks, all of his fans and his management.

"I am here for you and I do it for you," said "27 Dresses" star Katherine Heigl.

Funny man Robin Williams - who joked that the actresses are only as good as their parts - and said that he would like to see one of Angelina's tattoos, gave out the best female actress award.

Reese Witherspoon, who previously won an Oscar in 2005 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line," compared her scenes of singing in that movie with one showing a baby throwing up on her in this year's "Four Christmases."

"I love what I do," Witherspoon gushed.

Kid Rock, who won Favorite Rock Song for "All Summer Long" wasn't shy about his win.

"I don't do it to prove the critics wrong, although I do. I do it for the people to make it right," he said.

"There ain't nothing flat about them!" Latifah joked.

it''s not surprising that you don''t see the irony of your comment. critiquing and completely dismissing a movie you have never seen puts you in the same category as the men you happen to criticize. and only mindless sheep let the labeling of a movie sway their decision to view it.

You are totally on cbscrash. The movie was very long in my opinion and don''t like it when they put many villian''s in. The plot got convoluted to most people. That being said...if someone would look past the ''comic book'' theme, Heath Ledger''s performance was memorizing. He took over every scene and putting in little subtle pronunciations of words, or mannerisms that went way beyond typically character acting. I''ve never seen him in anything else and was unsure about all the hype about him until seeing the movie.

I won''t let me kids see the movie due to the violence (it''s really close to an R) which is a shame, but would not change it one little bit.

I hate chick flicks. The guys know why. Thank the gods that there are people making movies like Batman. It was an average movie. Christian Bales performance wasn''t great. Maybe that was because Heath Ledger was psychoticly awesome. The joker is my new favorite character. I liked the way that the joker was dark. I thought the pencil trick was classic joker yet it wasn''t done with cheap buzzers or clownish gizmos. A pencil, a simple pencil is the best joker prop ever.

Australian Prosecutors: "Jealous Wife" Enraged After Seeing Husband Hug Another Woman

The hypocrisy of CBS: they can post this title and use that word in the article, but we can''t use it in our postings.

About the wife: Stupid is as stupid does.

"boy meets villian, villian fights boy, boy fights villian, boy overcomes evil/villian, all''''s right awith the world -- end of story. Nice for feeding testosterone urges, and not much else."

Boy? I think you contempt for MEN is fairly clear and I''m sure your family enjoyed the movie without you. There is nothing worse than being with some who thinks what they enjoy is ''beneath'' them or sophmoric. Movies are nothing more than entertainment.

Oh, boy. Another self-congratulatory awards show. Looking at the recent movies and listening to the latest CDs, why don''t these people just have award shows? It would be cheaper and less frustrating for the public and the "stars" could clap each other on the back more often.

honestly, I thought it was another good "Batman" movie, and everyone who has played the "Joker" has always done a good or great performance. Geeeze, the first 15 minutes of "Mamma Mia" showed more talent the the whole "Batman" movie. Get real.
