Singer/Songwriter, Son Of Phil Collins, Performs Tracks From U.S. Debut Album

(CBS)  Like father, like son?

Singer/songwriter Simon Collins, whose dad is the legendary Phil Collins, stopped by The Early Show Saturday Edition's "Second Cup Cafe" to perform songs from his U.S. debut album, "U-Catastrophe."

Simon began following in his father's musical footsteps at the tender age of five, when he picked up a pair of drumsticks for the first time, eventually began playing guitar and piano, honing and crafting his original material.

Simon displays a unique blend of genres, ranging from pop and rock to electronic music.

In "U-Catastrophe," Simon teams with Phil for the very first time in "The Big Bang."

Of "U-Catastrophe, Simon says, "I found my voice on this record. Sonically, emotionally, and convictionally. This album has brought to balance all of my influences. Not just musical, but the things I feel the need to sing about."

Billboard magazine says Simon, "admits his father's drumming inspired him to become a musician and says he's not afraid his own music will be overshadowed by papa's legacy. The album's lead single, "Unconditional," is one of a few stripped-down, keyboard-driven songs that rely less on digital effects and more on Collins' personal relationships. Already gaining steady traction at AC, the track shows that son, like father, has a knack for crafting instantly recognizable pop melodies."

Born in London, Collins, 32, moved to British Columbia, Canada, at the age of 8.
