Politics can be a strange and dirty business. Check out some of the biggest missteps and mishaps in recent history.

(CBS/AP)  A lawyer for U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. says the congressman is the "Senate Candidate 5" mentioned in the federal corruption complaint against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The governor, a second-term Democrat, was arrested and accused of scheming to enrich himself by selling President-elect Barack Obama's open Senate seat for cash or a lucrative job for himself or his wife.

According to the 76-page federal complaint, Blagojevich "stated he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provided" the governor with something "tangible up front," presumably campaign money.

In an afternoon news conference Wednesday, Jackson said he did not approach the governor about an inappropriate deal or authorize an emissary to do so. He said that the U.S. attorney's office indicated to him Tuesday that he is "not a target of this investigation."

"I want to make this fact plan: I reject and denounce pay-to-play politics, and have no involvement whatsoever in any wrongdoing," Jackson said.

"I thought, mistakenly, that the process was fair," he said.

Jackson, a seven-term House member and son of civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, did not confirm that he is Candidate No. 5 during the press conference. He declined to take questions from the media on the advice of his attorney.

Jackson told reporters that he met with Blagojevich on Monday to discuss the position and present his qualifications in an appropriate way. He said he "thought that the governor was evaluating me fairly.”

Jackson learned he was mentioned in the complaint against Blagojevich the night before the governor's arrest on Tuesday, his attorney said.

On Oct. 31st, according to the complaint, Blagojevich indicated during a conversation that he had been approached by an emissary of Senate Candidate No. 5.

"We were approached 'pay to play,'" the governor allegedly said. "That, you know, he'd raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him a senator."

There is no independent evidence that Jackson or an emissary approached the governor about an improper deal, according to officials.

Jackson's Chicago-based lawyer, James D. Montgomery Sr., said, "politicians and fundraisers do some very strange things from time to time. I wouldn't put it past someone to be purporting to represent Jesse without authority."

Well I want to be a Senator for Illinois or NY.

Gee who should I contact? Jackson Jr. , Ted Kennedy, Ms Kennedy or Gov. Rod Blagojevich?

I don''t have ant experience but I have the backing four people.

Now I know why we are in this economic situation.

Rev. Jessie Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Robert Tilton, Rev. Jimmy Swaggert, Rev. Richard Roberts, Rev. Ted Haggard, Rev. Joyce Meyer-Does anybody see a pattern here?

Most of these "ministers" do not have a formal, earned ministerial degree and practically all of them are filthy, stinkin, rich.

Well at least they are following from the Bible-If you see a stranger take him in.

So was Jesse angry because he was only mentioned in fifth place, or was he proud he was mentioned as highly as fifth place? I heard the latest bid on ebay was $99,999,999.

It does appear that the rotten core of Jesse Jackson Jr does not fall far from his father. Like Father Like Son. No Change here.

The statement by the previous poster below is correct, but that MUST mean that someone in the OBama camp DID talk to the Governor...something they are denying. If they did talk, why didnt they report what was happening.

"But Obama was actually cursed out by this guy because all he wanted to "give" was "appreciation". So stick to the relevant facts Repubs. I suspect you will have good hunting but not the big Kahuna you dream of. (Still a pretty good sized Kahuna)."

And the "plot" thickens.............the web grows even bigger. Will Obama get caught in it like the rest of his political and business pals?

Apparently when Obama engaged in "personal corruption" in his special real estate deal with covicted felon Rekzo for his mansion the real estate agent for that corrupt deal was Blago''''s wife............oh my God!

If the Governor and his wife decide to sing for Fitzpatrick Obama could be finally included in this web of corruption......

Of course the Liberal Fascists in our MSM wolfpack press can''t report this FACT.

So I will.................

Corrupt liberal press if you can''t report the news/facts then get the hell out of the way...............

Good to see the GOP with something to talk about again. It is about time. Looks to me like if Jackson was about to get the nomination from mr pay to play, he must have said he was gonna pay. Could be a problem for Mr. Jackson. But Obama was actually cursed out by this guy because all he wanted to "give" was "appreciation". So stick to the relevant facts Repubs. I suspect you will have good hunting but not the big Kahuna you dream of. (Still a pretty good sized Kahuna).

This is looking bad for Obama. I voted for the guy thinking he would be more honest then the outgoing president. I guess i was wrong, he has been caught in a lie already. Axelrod is now saying he was wrong about Obama meeting with the Gov. Unfortunately there was a news article about the meeting. Yahoo has removed the article but you can still find it.

Sorry Jess, but when "#5" was mentioned on the FBI tapes, they weren''t ordering Chinese food, LOL

It''s on there that you were offering $1M for Blago''s campaign... ah, like scumbag father, like son.

WHY did Obama lie about discussing the seat with Blagojevich?

WHO from Team Obama offered Blago a corporate BOD position for his wife?

HOW OFTEN was Emanuel in touch with Blago''s people?

WHAT did they mean on the FBI wiretap when Blago''s advisers said Obama had to "suck it up" for the next couple years? Temporarily refrain from cheating, bribing, and stealing Chicago-style?

And, Blago''s (convicted) bagman was Rezko... you know, the guy that helped Barack buy that nice house? And raised tons of money for both Barack and Blago?

Wake up, pollyanna Obamaphiles... the dream is over already. When reality hits, it hits hard... especially when suppressed for so long.

I guess you won''t be getting that Senate seat now either, Chris Matthews- should have just bought this one from Hot Rod when you had the chance, LOL

Let the truth be told... the de-programming of the Obama Cult is desperately needed, and seriously overdue.
