MSNBC's Chris Matthews For U.S. Senate?

Pa. Democratic Party Leader Says TV Host Might Challenge GOP's Arlen Specter

The latest names and status of posts within Obama's new administration.

(AP)  A Pennsylvania Democratic party leader says MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews may be considering a run for U.S. Senate in 2010.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports Matthews met with state party leaders this past week in Washington to discuss a possible bid to unseat Republican Sen. Arlen Specter.

Party official Mary Isenhour says she left the meeting feeling that Matthews still hadn't made up his mind.

The 62-year-old Matthews hosts MSNBC's "Hardball" and provides political commentary on NBC's "Today." He ran unsuccessfully for a Pennsylvania congressional seat in 1974.

There was no immediate comment from Matthews on Saturday. A reliable home telephone number could not be located and a representative of MSNBC did not immediately return a call.

Jesse Ventura, Arnold Swartenager, and Ronald Reagan, who created what at that time was America''s largest deficit ever by the time he left office -- he also sent hundreds of unarmed troops into Lebanon where they were attacked and killed.
How could Chris Matthews do any worse than they did? Given the alternative, Arlen Spector, I would hold my nose and vote for Matthews I think.

Chris Matthews embodies the lessons of Jean Renoir''s "Rules of the Game." He is a gentleman; he''s not a demagogue. He believes in good, hard political debate. But he also believes, at the end of the day, in shaking hands and having a drink with the other side realizing that they love this country as well. It''s good sportsmanship, and it''s also good character. This sort of true blue American gentleman is a dying breed. And he''s got my support.

I hope he does run. To me, he has lost all credibility as a journalist and has been an advocate for Obama for a long time. His objectivity is completely blown and he has become an advocate.

I give him full marks for realizing this as Franken did. I only wish Olbermann, Maddow, Oreilly, Limbaugh, etc would be so brave and do the same.....

Leave journalism to those who at least pretend to be impartial......

Arlen Specter has been a voice for moderation; he is not a right wing nut job. He has performed well and done so while bravely fighting cancer. I sincerely hope the good people of Pennsyvania recognize this fact and place him back into the senate, regardless of who runs against him. BTW, I have nothing against Matthews, just like Specter.

Matthew''s will have his hands full. Arlen may be a Republican but he''s always voted on the side of moderation. But you have to admit we could all really have fun with this one. What will Chris Matthew''s campaign slogan be? ''Vote Matthews - for a warm sensation!'' How about ''I''ll make you tingle too!'' Come on - join in...let''s give Matthew''s the benefit of our wisdom in helping to shape his campaign.

The fact of the matter is that there are probably a lot of brilliant minds that would do an exceptional job of representing the people of their state but they remain ''unknowns'' because to campaign in this country requires you have big money and lots of backing OR a great deal of visibility (as does Matthews) to draw attention to yourself as a candidate. As such you will most likely never see the best qualified person get the job.

Since you obviously do not like this man, who would you propose to replace the Fascist? I think Matthews is a very intelligent person AND he was VERY opposed to Bush, Trickle Down and all the rest of the failures provided by the Republican''s.

Arlen Specter (born February 12, 1930) is the senior United States Senator from Pennsylvania and a member of the Republican Party. Elected in 1980, he is currently the 15th-most senior member of the U.S. Senate as well as 7th most senior Republican in this body.

Chris Matthews already has the election in the bag.

Arlen Specter is 78 years old and its time to retire.

LOW AND BEHOLD, found Bush to have actually outperformed many other presidents in in less severe situations

It''s amazing that you still support Bush & most of his own party did not want his support or backing when Senators were up for election last month. A huge majority of the Republican Party avoided Bush like the Plague during the elections.

Why is CBS closing comments on the Obama article "Help is on the way"? They state that if the news is more than 72 hours old, then comments are closed: Why do they have such an old news article on the cover? Helloooooo! Anyway, if help is on the way, we should see it coming, perhaps hearing the rumble of "help" making its way to ourselves, or smelling the sweetness of "help", but for the time being I think that "help" is an utopia, given the current economic conditions. Sorry that this comment is out of context here and I wouldn''t be surprised that CBS removes it after a while, but please, allow people to comment if the news is still on the cover page at least.
