Iraq: 5 Years At War
Five years after the U.S.-led invasion, the war wears on.
The attacker struck around noon while waiting in a line to be searched outside the mosque in Musayyib, a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of security concerns.
The blast came a day after Iraqi lawmakers approved a security pact with the United States that will allow U.S. forces to stay in Iraq for three more years. Proponents of the deal - which still must be ratified by the three-member presidential council - argued the Americans are still needed because Iraqis aren't ready to take over security.
Anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called for peaceful protests over the agreement in a statement Friday. But in a significant omission, he did not repeat his threat to unleash militia fighters to attack U.S. forces if they don't leave immediately.
Al-Sadr also urged his followers to close his offices and affiliated institutions for three days "to show the tragedy that has befallen us," according to the statement that was read to reporters by his spokesman Sheik Salah al-Obeidi.
"We offer our condolences to the Iraqi people over this calamity that has fallen upon them with the signing of the agreement of humiliation and indignity," it said. "We will keep on calling for continuous peaceful public protests."
A cease-fire order by the Shiite cleric, who is believed to be in Iran, has been a key factor in the drop in violence over the past year.
Friday's suicide bomber struck a mosque run by al-Sadr loyalists in Musayyib, 40 miles south of Baghdad.
The police officer said the nine killed included a woman who was begging nearby. Dr. Saad al-Janabi confirmed the casualty toll, saying 15 people also were wounded.
Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack but suicide bombers are the signature attack of the group al Qaeda in Iraq. The U.S. military has warned that Sunni insurgents are trying to provoke revenge attacks by Shiite extremists.
Under the pact, U.S. forces will withdraw from Iraqi towns and cities by June 30 and the entire country by Jan. 1, 2012.
Iraq also will have strict oversight over the nearly 150,000 American troops now on the ground, representing a step toward full sovereignty for Iraq and a shift from the sense of frustration many Iraqis feel at the presence of U.S. troops on their soil for so many years.

Christian countries invade Muslim nations and occupy them killing Muslims by the thousands, while;
Jews hold Muslims prisoners on their own land killing Muslims by the hundreds at will, while;
Muslims attack and kill Christians and Jews when the opportunity presents itself.
We would all be better off without this type of mind control that encourages the killing of those who subscribe to another dogma.

While the majority of victims are Indian, there is no doubt that westerners were being sought by the attackers.
And regardless of the percentage of dead who were Muslim or Hindu, it changes not the facts stated in my earlier post.
I stand corrected.
I had two instances of explorer open and thought I was posting to the article on Mumbai.
But the fact remains that dogma encourages the killing of those who think differently.
The proof of that is reported above.

Iraq:
What would happen if the U.S. won a war but the media didn''''t tell the
American public?
Apparently, we have to rely on a British newspaper for the
news that we''''ve defeated the last remnants of al-Qaida in Iraq .
London''''s Sunday Times called it "the culmination of one of the most
spectacular victories of the war on terror." A terrorist force that once
numbered more than 12,000, with strongholds in the west and central regions
of Iraq, has over two years been reduced to a mere 1,200 fighters, backed
against the wall in the northern city of Mosul.
The destruction of al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) is one of the most unlikely and
unforeseen events in the long history of American warfare.
We can thank
President Bush''''s surge strategy,
in which he bucked both Republican and
Democratic leaders in Washington by increasing our forces there instead of
surrendering.
We can also thank the leadership of the new general he placed in charge
there, David Petraeus, who may be the foremost expert in the world on
counter-insurgency warfare. And we can thank those serving in our military
in Iraq who engaged local Iraqi tribal leaders and convinced them
America was their friend and AQI their enemy.
Al-Qaida''''s loss of the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis began in Anbar
Province, which had been written off as a basket case, and spread out from
there.

hotpaulie~ are you that uneducated? What we won.. We helped free a nation of a terrible dictator who killed 100,000''S of his own people... Who said he had WMD and would use them. We won the hearts of MANY Iraqis by giving them democracy and freedom, by giving them a infrastructure that they hadn''t had in a long time.. We won by establishing a democracy in a part of the world that is very troubled and by doing so we hope it will spread.. and bring PEACE to that part of the world.. If not all of this planet..
We won because we terminated man Cockroaches who came to Iraq to KILL AMERICANS..
Why doesn''t the media tell you of all the good things the US has done in Iraq.. Because Good things don''t sell the news.. Just look at the healines if you don''t believe me..

Ok, if you consider invading Iraq instead of concentrating on capturing Bin Laden (the person responsible fot the deaths of over 3000 Amerians on 911) then in your mind that''s good.
If you consider the deaths of over 4000 of our troops in Iraq for a manufactured war by Bush--then I guess to you, that''s good.
If you thing the deaths of over 600,000 Iraqi civilians for a Bush manufactured war is ok, then I guess you think that''s good.
If you think the displacement of over 4 million Iraqis is ok, then I guess you think that''s good.
If spending 10 billion a month in Iraq is ok, then you must think that''s good.
If owing China $500 billion dollars is ok, then you must think that''s good as well.
The United States has, for the past 8 years, been run by quite a flower---or I should say, a blooming idiot!
About 20% of the US citizens still think we should be in Iraq--like the terrorists in Washington, Bush and Cheney---proud to be in the minority huh?

Nothing has stopped Bin Laden or no one has tried stopping Bin Laden?
Early on, the US knew Bin Laden was in Tora Bora---OUR CIA has detailed maps of Tora Bora---tell me where the effort was!
Our military has had Bin Laden in their sites a couple times since then and have been told to back off!

Except the 4000 who aren''t comming home...right?
Iraq was a war crime
is now a war crime
will always be a war crime
and a republican president
is the war criminal.
"Iraq Resolution" and "Iraq War Resolution" are popular names for the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002,[1] a joint resolution (i.e. a law) passed by the United States Congress in October 2002 as Public Law No: 107-243, authorizing the Iraq War.
