Man Kills Wife In New Jersey Church

Second Person Also Killed; Police: Suspect Drove Cross-Country To Confront Estranged Spouse

Statistics and specifics on crime in America.

(CBS/ AP)  A gunman drove across the country to confront his estranged wife, then killed her and another man in a church vestibule as Sunday services let out, authorities said. One other person was injured in the attack, which sent churchgoers scrambling for safety.

The gunman fled, and authorities were searching for him and warned people that he was believed to be armed.

Police are searching for the suspect, 27-year-old Joseph M. Pallipurath, in Georgia, where he has relatives.

He's wanted in the killing of his estranged wife, 24-year-old Reshma James, who was gunned down inside St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox Knanaya Church in the town of Clifton on Sunday.

Early Monday morning, 23-year-old John Dennis, a second victim of the shooting, died from his wounds.

Dennis was shot along with James and her cousin, Silvy Perincheril. A prosecutor says the 47-year-old cousin is in "extremely critical" condition.

About 200 people were attending services inside St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox Knanaya Church in Clifton when the gunman opened fire before noon. Churchgoers described bedlam after the shots rang out.

"Kids were crying. People were screaming," Suja Alummoottil told The Record of Bergen County. "It was chaotic."

Alummoottil, 40, said Pallipurath appeared angry when he confronted James in the vestibule as the service was concluding. Alummoottil said she went to get help and, a few seconds later, heard three shots.

Rowan said James had recently moved from California to New Jersey to escape an abusive marriage and had filed a restraining order against Pallipurath.

CBS News affiliate WCBS reported that she had two separate restraining orders against Pallipurath.

Rowan told media Sunday that the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, and was believed to be traveling in a green 2004 Jeep with California license plates and a black soft top. He was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and was believed to be carrying a silver handgun, reported WCBS.

Members of the church are mostly first-generation immigrants and their children from the southern Indian state of Kerala, according to the church's Web site.

truthrocks, you are quite correct. I did assume that you were female. I apologize. However, I disagree that the taxpayers spend billions on suicides. Who does the government pay that money to? Do people get money for being depressed? I know some people get "crazy checks" but that is not necessarily due to anyone''s suicide. I suspect you are making up stuff as you go along. And the organ donor idea could be a benefit to people in need of organs. It probably wouldn''t get through the legislature, though and even if it did, suicide prone people would probably not commit suicide if they thought someone would benefit. And a lot of suicide prone people are substance abusers so their organs might not be worth harvesting.

The users don''''t need the spoon to get fat but they need the gun to shoot and kill.

They need guns to shoot but they don''t need them to kill. They can use other weapons to kill. You''ll see an increase in the use of those weapons.

But the spoon is the not the cause of death. In gun-related deaths the gun is the cause of death!~

This is when you drift. Spoons are not the cause of obesity. They are a tool used by the user. It is the user and their actions that determines how much weight they gain, not the spoon. Same with the gun. Guns don''t cause death. They are a tool that assist the user with their task. It is the user and their actions that cause violence and deaths.

Truthrocks says there would be less suicide without guns. She doesn''t explain how less suicide would be a benefit to society. Maybe the suicide prone could be put into a organ donor/harvest program for those who want to keep living.

That''''s because it is not the spoons making people fat. It is the food. In the case of guns the cause of death is bullets entering the bodies and the bullets don''''t come out of the trigger fingers of the shooters. They come out of the GUNS!~ Is that so hard to understand?

Exactly! If you take away somebody''s spoon, they''ll find another way to eat. If you take away somebody''s gun, they''ll find another way to kill.

If there were no hamburgers, there would be less heart attacks. If there were no cars, there would be no drunk drivers. If there were no illegal drugs, there would be no overdoses. If there were no gangs, there would be no crime. If there were no message boards, there would be no Truthrocks.

Ohhh, I got it! Let''s pass a new law. From henceforth upon separation of man and wife, the guns go to the wife, automatically. But then if there is no separation or divorce, the problem remains.

Oh well, thought I had a brainstorm....

Guns have only been around a few hundred years, Pain, Misery and Murder have been around almost as long as Life has

guysgigdirt said "Guns kill people like spoons make people fat."

That''''s such a lame and pathetic claim. If that woman got fat it was her fault but it wasn''''t her fault that her husband shoot her. NO IT IS THE HUSBANDS FAULT, NOT THE WEAPON''S.

Then he said "But maybe it is easier for you to demonize guns rather than deal with the real issue."

Since more than 2/3 of spouses and ex-spouses are killed with guns then GUNS are a BIG part of the real issue!~
Posted by truthrocks

So to you the issue is the weapon of choice. If there were not guns there would be no homocide.

How do we cure obiesity? Get rid of the spoons?

Guns are used in more suicides than all the pills, buses, knives, ropes, tall buildings, etc. COMBINED!~ That''''s why most suicides are gun-related by a MILE!~
Posted by truthrocks

You statistic is true only in areas where guns are available. If you go to other countries where guns are not as available there are just as many suicides per capita but the method is different.

Fewer guns will not mean fewer deaths. Fewer spoons will not mean fewer fat people.

If they take a pill or jump in front of a bus they are likely to LIVE.
Posted by truthrocks

If they take a pill and don''t die, they weren''t determined. They only wanted attention. I''ve read about too many recent suicides with teenagers involving hangings and pills. You take away guns, you''ll see an increase in other methods.

There will be some misery left but a lot will be gone. Here in the US most murders and suicides are gun-related.
Posted by truthrocks

You really think removing guns will remove mental illness, desperation due to poverty, and anger? You think the motives that drive people to kill one another will vanish? I don''t. I think they''ll find other ways to carry out their tasks.

You are so clueless, it amazes me.
I am able to kill you with a Bow & Arrow, Crossbow, spear, Tomahawk, Knife, Club, and nearly a hundred other weapons not to mention all of the poisons and various chemicals that go ''Boom'' or burn, corrode, and more bad things. But ''you'' want to blame a lump of metal & plastic for ''ALL'' earths ills.
Shhheeeeesssshhhhhhh!!!!!!

I spoke to my handgun and asked it to please be nice.

we all know that someone who would kill themselves with a gun, certainly would not take a pill or jump in front of a bus.

Remember: Guns don''t kill people, Churches do.

If there werent guns, there would be no misery in the world.

We should ban them all, as soon as we did there would be no crime and everyone would love each-other.

Why would criminals need guns if the cops didnt have them? If we disarm the cops, and citizens, the criminals would surrender their guns.

I cant see how a criminal would even want a gun just to protect billions of dollars worth of drugs. Because he/she deals with other criminals, that doesnt sound dangerous?

Its not like drug smugglers could smuggle guns in with their millions of tons worth of cocaine.

Join The Brady Campaign. We blame inanimate objects for the actions of humans rather than hold people responsible for what they do. Its too emotional to get angry at people, especially when your a libtard who buys off on c r a p like lack of education or socio-economic status as causal factors in crime.

Remember, we at The Brady Campaign, Handgun Control Inc. and The Million Mom March make excuses for criminals who rape and murder children. Its easier than dealing with the harsh reality of punishing criminals.

Next time a psycho kills someone, or a crook rapes a child, thank HCI, The Brady Bunch, and Rosie Odonnel

Whatever you''re smoking, share it with the rest of us. They banned guns in England... ask them how that''s going. And what planet do you live on where criminals will voluntarily hand over their guns after law enforcement is disarmed? Share the weed... don''t hog it.

Evian said "Yeah! We actually prefer knives."

Are you talking about the husbands who do not mean to kill them? "LOL"

Posted by truthrocks at 02:36 PM : Nov 24, 2008

What`s your hurry? Knives allow for maximum enjoyment and minimum intrusion by nosey neighbors wondering what the gunshots are all about.

Jeez, don`t you people read Lawrence Saunders?
