(CBS)  Harry Potter has jumped off the silver screen and is working his magic on Broadway.

Actor Daniel Radcliffe sat down with Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith to share his thoughts on his new role in the Broadway revival of "Equus."

Best known for playing the boy wizard in the blockbuster series, "Harry Potter," Radcliffe is making a different type of magic.

The 19-year-old actor is having the time of his life.

"It's amazing. I never predicted when I first came to this studio -- what, like seven years ago now -- that I would actually be on Broadway doing a show. You know, they're awesome, but I miss stuff about home but, ultimately, I'm 19 and I'm on Broadway and it's just kind of amazing," he said.

Radcliffe hasn't left Harry Potter far behind, however.

He is getting ready to go back to work to continue filming "Harry Potter" movies, which he anticipates will take a very long time.

"It's going to be filmed as one movie, but we're going to release it as two. I haven't seen the scripts yet, so I can't tell you anything, but I am very, very excited," he said.

Although the "Harry Potter" cast has grown up, everybody will return to film the seventh movie - even the crew.

Radcliffe, who answered fans' questions that were sent in via email, said he has enjoyed soaking up the sights in New York City while he's been on Broadway.

"One of the things I enjoyed the most was being able to wander around Central Park. It's a really fantastic place. And it's kind of wonderful. And also I like the fact that there's a great, there's a comedian whose name I think is David Cross and he talks about the fact, in New York, you have to make a decision every 20 minutes 'Do I look at the most beautiful woman I've ever seen or the most craziest man I've ever seen?' That's what I love about this city. It's wonderful," he said.

Another fan was curious about Radcliffe's taste in music.

"There's a great -- there's a band called The Wedding Present, who have just released a song -- who have been going for ages, I think. They just released 'Hope Loves Betty,' which is great. Now I'm struggling to think. Holy Ghost Revival, a band. They have a song called 'The Gospel According to Judas.' They're sort of between, there are bits of Bowie and glam rock. I can't think of any more at this particular point in time," he said.

Although Radcliffe doesn't sing in "Equus," he was asked if he would like to do a musical like "The Producers" or "Spamalot."

"I would love to do a musical. Yeah, absolutely. I'm taking lessons. Hopefully, one day I will be able to sing. I'd love to do a musical. I'm not sure which one, because I'm not sure what I would be particularly good at or what part, like my voice would be best suited to," he said. "But, yeah, we'll see. I'd love to."

Tickets to "Equus" are still available.
