Flamingo Recaptured After Escaping From Iowa Zoo

Flamingo Recaptured After Nearly 7 Hours After Escaping From Des Moines Blank Park Zoo

(AP)  A flamingo that flew the coop at Des Moines' Blank Park Zoo has been recaptured and returned to the zoo. Zoo spokesman Terry Rich said the adult flamingo was discovered missing Tuesday morning. It was recaptured nearly 7 hours later in the nearby Fort Des Moines area.

Rich said the bird eluded zoo keepers and others who tried to catch it by flying through a nearby golf course and flying over the entire zoo.

He says the zoo's flamingos have their wings clipped but that the birds can molt and re-grow those feathers, allowing them to take flight.
