(CBS/AP)  Police arrested a 47-year-old engineer suspected of fatally shooting three co-workers in the California office park where they worked. The suspect had been laid off just hours earlier before returning to request a meeting with the victims, police said.

Jing Hua Wu was arrested Saturday, a day after the shootings in Santa Clara, west of San Jose. A manhunt ended at an intersection in his home city of Mountain View, and he will be booked into jail on three counts of murder, said Santa Clara Police Lt. Mike Sellers.

Wu, who is married and has twin sons, was not armed when he was arrested, and officers did not find a gun in his vehicle, police said.

A phone message left by The Associated Press at a number listed for Wu's home address was not immediately returned.

Wu had worked at the Silicon Valley high-tech firm SiPort Inc. as a product test engineer until he was let go on Friday morning. Police said he returned sometime after 3 p.m. local time Friday.

"He requested a meeting with several company officials," said Santa Clara Police Chief Stephen Lodge. "It was during this meeting that Jing Wu took out a 9 mm handgun and shot and killed all three officials."

Killed were 56-year-old Sid Agrawal, SiPort's chief executive officer; Brian Pugh, 47, vice president of operations; and Marilyn Lewis, 67, head of human resources.

Wu had been missing since the shootings at the offices of the 4-year-old company, which develops digital radio semiconductors.

Detectives received a tip about Wu's whereabouts on Saturday and were waiting for him as he exited his silver sport utility vehicle near a shop.

"This is a truly tragic event. These people are innocent victims just trying to do their jobs," Sellers said. "To get him into custody within hours of the event was very, very important to our department."

Story needs to be corrected as he was NOT laid off. SiPort Inc. does not have a lay off policy, he was fired.

JesusEyes - automobiles have killed more people each year than any gun. With your logic, automobiles should be outlawed because they take tens of thousands of innocent lives, including women and children.

Like the 1st Sarg (1SG) told me, kill em all and let Jesus sort them out.

To JesusEyes- There has been a lot of things taken away from good, educated people over the last few years. Too much politics, red tape, outsourcing of jobs and the like. Some people just aren''t going to take this *** anymore. Would it have made any difference to you if this man used a knife or ball bat to kill the people at his former employer? Dead is dead! It is the individual person who acts irresponsible and uses bad judgement to accomplish the things he/she feels is nessesary, not the objects they choose to use, who are at fault. Have you, JE, ever seen a knife, gun or bat pick itself up and harm another person? I think not! Firearms are the most easiest means to this end and if you plan to target ( or ban ) just firearms, you need to expand your field of vision to all items that could be used to do harm. I own several firearms and am trained to use them responsibly. I''ve been fired from a job or two in my lifetime and never felt the need to kill the folks who terminated my employment! Focusing on getting another job has always been the first priority when those things happened. Please reconsider placing blame on the NRA or Scalia as you stated were at fualt for this unfortunate act. Thanks and God bless us all!
