Photo Essay Hillary Rodham Clinton The Democratic Senator from New York and former first lady sets her sights on the White House.
People close to Sen. Clinton say the former first lady has not been approached, reports CBS News White House correspondent Bill Plante.
But a Democratic official said Friday morning that Clinton and Obama met in Obama's downtown office Thursday afternoon.
Clinton's motorcade was seen leaving the office complex shortly before Obama left for the day. Clinton receives Secret Service protection as a former first lady.
Clinton, who pushed Obama hard for the Democratic presidential nomination, was rumored to be a contender for the job last week, but the talk died down as party activists questioned whether she was best-suited to be the nation's top diplomat in an Obama administration.
The talk resumed in Washington and elsewhere Thursday, a day after Obama named several former aides to President Bill Clinton to help run his transition effort.
The two Democratic officials who spoke Thursday did so on the condition of anonymity to avoid angering Obama and his staff. Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines referred questions to the Obama transition team, which said it had no comment.
One source told Plante that perhaps this is just an honorable mention - a way of rewarding Sen. Clinton for her help during the campaign. But Clinton's visit to Chicago - on what her office will describe only as private business - has renewed speculation that an offer could be forthcoming.
Other people frequently mentioned for the State Department job are Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and New Mexico's Democratic governor, Bill Richardson.
Sen. Clinton campaigned hard against Obama in a bitter battle for the Democratic nomination, but the two began to mend fences -- with Clinton headlining about three dozen campaign events on Obama's behalf.
Democratic strategist Dee Dee Myers expects their relationship to remain one of mutual respect because the bottom line is they need each other.
"I think she has made it clear that she will continue to help him," Myers said. "He has made it clear that he is grateful for all that she has done and he values her advice and values her experience."

- You can bet Sen Clinton will do whatever serves her Presidential aspirations and if that happens to be in the best interest of the country, it will be a happy coincidence.

- In the debates, Hillary Clinton didn''t even know who was the President of the Russia. She talked about landing in combat zones in Bosnia and working on the Northern Ireland peace accords, all lies. She is seen internationally as a fraud, and as a back woods lawyer who does deals, takes bribes and lies. They know her from the countless sleaze deals that came out of the Clinton white house. She would be an insult to the US as secretary of state. -
The Secretary of State should be someone of impeccable integrity and decency. Someone who could command respect for their knowledge of geo politics and international relationships. Above all else, a person who is held in high esteem for their wise council and worldly wisdom.
The United States is trying to recover from the debacle of having the imbecile George Bush as head of state, a person who is universally despised around the world as an ogre. Now we are getting the Queen of Sleaze as secretary of state. Certainly Obama can do better. - Reply to this comment

- Considering the way the DNC and Obama treated her, I don''t think she should do anything to either help the new administration or do anything to prop up Obama and make him look capable. I can well imagine the seething both Kerry and especially Richardson are doing just hearing her name mentioned in the same breath as the cabinet post. Laughable.

- Then DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. It''''s on the internet.
You lead a horse to water, and the horse just says "BUSH IS TO BLAME!!!"
This is like a really bad episode of "The Twilight Zone." I think I''''ll change the channel.

It never ceases to amaze me... these lunatics start ranting and raving about things they found "on the web" like they are real, wonder why no one will listen to them, then run away when they are calle dout for their shoddy research. Is this the product of the TX educational system? If so, good call on my part keeping my kids out of there. - Reply to this comment
- The best solution is to let Sen. Hillary Clinton select her own role and give it to her. Under those conditions Sen. Clinton may decide Gov. Bill Richardson is the best fit for Secretary of State, but if Sen. Clinton wants to be Secretary of State then let her have it. Gov. Richardson stepped up to the plate for Sen. Obama when it counted and Pres.-elect Obama should find a prominent role for him. Deep down I believe Sen. Clinton knows Secretary of State is a better fit for Gov. Richardson and may want the job as pay back or revenge because Gov. Richardson supported Sen. Obama and not her in the Primaries. Sen. Clinton can excel and fit in almost any role, the same is not true for Gov. Richardson, I don''t think he would make a good Attorney General for example while Sen. Clinton would.

Massive political contributions from groups fronting for terrorist groups. What else? The same as the Chinese did.
Imagine being stopped by the police for speeding five times. But you never get a ticket. That''s about what happened to this 9/11 pilot.
It all happened on Clinton''s watch. And the logic on these boards is that the President is responsible for EVERYTHING, isn''t it???
So it MUST have been him.
It just seems very strange that a pilot can be flying on a certificate that expired over a year earlier, he got turned in five times, and the FAA did NOTHING AT ALL about this person.
The FAA is legendary among pilots for being second only to the Spanish Inquisition. But this guy got a free pass. HOW?? FROM WHO???
Pilot shops actually sell T-shirts that say "I''m from the FAA. We''re not happy until you''re not happy." But they just ignored this 9/11 pilot. - Reply to this comment

- Okay, I read through it. I did not read intensively, but I am not seeing what it is that you are insinuating about Bill Clinton
Posted by IrishWench at 11:25 AM : Nov 14, 2008
Did you read the second paragraph under the heading "2001?"
Did you read that his certificate expired in 1999 - but he was still flying in 2001?
Did you read that he was turned in five times?
Maybe you''re not a pilot, so you don''t understand the meaning of these things.
Somebody was giving him a free pass. Who was it?
I saw this guy myself. He was swaggering around acting like a ganster. Who was giving him the free pass????
It happened ON CLINTON''S WATCH. So it must have been him. RIGHT? - Reply to this comment
- A "trusted" advisor. He better watch his back !!!!

I saw him in person in the summer of 2000.
He was swaggering around acting like a gangster.
He was flying on an expired certificate.
He was turned in five times to the FAA.
If he wasn''t taken in for interrogation, SOMEBODY GAVE HIM A FREE PASS. - Reply to this comment
- Hillary Clinton would be perfect for Secretary of State. If this latest leak from the Obama transition team turns out to be true, then Obama has displayed once again his willingness to turn a political rival into a trusted advisor. Obama is also set to meet with John McCain on monday. It will be interesting to see if something surprisingly positive comes out of the Obama/McCain meeting......

- What do you think the Bush administration has been doing for the past 6 years. He walked on our constitution (1st ammendant ) He was the first leader of the civilized world to break the Geneva Convention. He has let his Vice President trample the defined role he was given. Please take your head out of your azz, and take a look.

And Clintoon and Schumer didn''t with their maniacal gun-grab programs during the first 2 years of his presidency? The reason the Reps had a majority in congress afterwards was because of that. - Reply to this comment
