Reid, Lieberman To Continue Mulling Options

(The Politico)  After a 45-minute meeting today between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Joe Lieberman, Reid's spokesman said that no decisions have been made about the latter senator's future.

Reid spokesman Jim Manley said the two had "the first of what I expect to be several discussions." There may not be any resolution until the Democratic Caucus meets during the lame-duck session.

Both senators say they will continue to ponder their options, but Democratic sources say Reid may offer Leiberman, who currently chairs the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, a subcommittee chairmanship instead.

UPDATE: A statement out from Reid offers no more clarity, though it does take a tough line. “Today Sen. Lieberman and I had the first of what I expect to be several conversations. No decisions have been made. While I understand that Sen. Lieberman has voted with Democrats a majority of the time, his comments and actions have raised serious concerns among many in our Caucus. I expect there to be additional discussions in the days to come, and Sen. Lieberman and I will speak to our Caucus in two weeks to discuss further steps.”
