Budget Airline Ryanair Plans Cheap Flights From Ireland And U.K. To The U.S.

(AP)  Budget airline Ryanair is drawing up plans to offer trans-Atlantic flights as cheap as 10 euros ($12.70) before taxes to several U.S. cities from Britain and Ireland, a company official said, according to a newspaper report Sunday.

The Irish airline intends to offer services from London's Stansted and Dublin airports to New York, Florida, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston, Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary was quoted as saying in an interview with Britain's News of the World tabloid.

Ryanair Holdings PLC spokeswoman Pauline McAlester said she could not confirm the plans before an official announcement Monday when the company's half yearly results - expected to show a fall in profits as a result of slowing consumer demand - are announced.

"Economy class will be very cheap - around 10 euros. But our business class will be very expensive. There's always 10-15 percent who'll pay whatever it costs for a wide seat," O'Leary was quoted as saying.

Last month, the airline closed a base in Valencia, ending 70 weekly flights to the city in southern Spain.

But O'Leary hopes Ryanair could snap up aircraft from struggling rivals to create a new trans-Atlantic service, the newspaper said.

"We'll just have to keep flying more aircraft, opening up more routes and offering people more cheap flights," he was quoted as saying.

Ryanair treats its passengers like dirt. Passengers have to line up like cattle, waiting for a stampede to get their seats, since there are no seat assignments. Otherwise you sit in the middle row between two screaming kids. Seats don''t recline, as Ryanair wanted to save a few bucks on maintenance. Pilots have repeatedly warned of safety fears as they are pressured by management to minimize the fuel they carry. And there''s no food provided.
What Ryanair will do, however, is allow you to use your cellphone, as they are planning to be one of the first airlines to allow people to yabber for the duration of the flight. No-one in their right mind would want to spend eight or twelve hours on board a Ryanair flight.

cdfoxtrot4...what do you expect for the price they offer? You get what you pay for. I have flown with them several times all over Europe. I love to travel and I look for a good price..of course you will give up some luxury with cheap prices. This airline is not for everyone but it offers a choice to those who do not mind the wal-mart approach to flying.

I don''t mind flying a couple hours in a seat that does not recline but 8-12 hours is pushing it. Yes, they offer food but you have to pay for it. It''s not much. Things like chips, sandwich, cola, etc... All in all it is worth the money for those who love to travel a lot yet stay on a budget.

The cheap ticets are usually available during the week and you have to get them early. As the seats decrease the prices increase. In Europe I have flown for 1 cent...the catch is the taxes. They may charge 12 dollars but taxes will add $400.

RYNAIR WOULD NOT ALLOW ME ON A FLIGHT FROM PRESTWICK SCOTLAND TO BOURNEMOUTH ENGLAND BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE A PASSPORT YET THIS WAS A FLIGHT WITHIN THE UK I THEN WATCHED AS TWO DRUNKS STAGGERED ON TO THE PLANE.I WAS THEN FACED WITH A DRIVE OF SIX HUNDRED MILES I WOULD NOT TOUCH RYANAIR WITH A BARGEPOLE.
