Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow to death Oct. 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo, Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses.
The Islamic militia in charge of Kismayo had accused her of adultery after she reported that three men had raped her, the rights group said.
Initial local media reports said Duhulow was 23, but her father told Amnesty International she was 13. Some of the Somali journalists who first reported the killing later told Amnesty International that they had reported she was 23 based upon her physical appearance.
Calls to Somali government officials and the local administration in Kismayo rang unanswered Saturday.
"This child suffered a horrendous death at the behest of the armed opposition groups who currently control Kismayo," David Copeman, Amnesty International's Somalia campaigner, said in a statement Friday.
Somalia is among the world's most violent and impoverished countries. The nation of some 8 million people has not had a functioning government since warlords overthrew a dictator in 1991 then turned on each other.
A quarter of Somali children die before age 5; nearly every public institution has collapsed. Fighting is a daily occurrence, with violent deaths reported nearly every day.
Islamic militants with ties to al Qaeda have been battling the government and its Ethiopian allies since their combined forces pushed the Islamists from the capital in December 2006. Within weeks of being driven out, the Islamists launched an insurgency that has killed thousands of civilians.
In recent months, the militants appear to be gaining strength. The group has taken over the port of Kismayo, Somalia's third-largest city, and dismantled pro-government roadblocks. They also effectively closed the Mogadishu airport by threatening to attack any plane using it.

See all 146 CommentsIf we want to send troops anywhere, this is where the world should unite to make this hellhole safe for it''s suffering people.
Is this a horrible thing? Yes. But I believe that people need to fight for themselves and their own rights. You can''t impose your ideas of fairness on others -- they may not have the same view of "fair" and, if they did not fight for it, they will not have the vested interest in protecting it.
I do agree, though, that the world seems ambivalent because of a lack of oil. Look at Darfur.
This really is not about faith. It''s about power. Because, really, do we need to look at the history of Christians? Crusades. Inquisitions. "Holy" wars. Forced conversions. All approved by the Church. And then there''s where the Church looked the other way: items like the Nazis. What would Jesus do? Not any of those, methinks.
Nope. Not gonna happen that way. The secret lies in education. Educate the women to educate their sons and daughters.
Then there would be no need to go to warl
That would make the U.S. his country.
Now, take your meds.
Welcome President Biden!!
But, please check your facts. The Hawaii authorities have verified his birth over and over.
Some Obama critics claim he was not born in the U.S. Earlier Friday, a southwest Ohio magistrate rejected a challenge to Obama%u2019s citizenship. Judges in Seattle and Philadelphia recently dismissed similar suits.
If I had been born in Russia I would still be an American citizen because my Mother was and it wouldn''t matter who my father was as long as my mother had not renounced her citizenship. (before you start, I was born in the lower 48 before WWII)
you are mistaken, I never claimed to be Christian or the believer of any "God" as the people who viciously murdered this little girl claim.
Religion ruins everything.
It''s barbaric, disgusting, and what happens when justice is black and white, doesn''t care about mitigating circumstances.

Amen...
Well almost all people. There is that part about *** and lesbians being sinners. And that part about anyone who tries to stop christinas from spreading the word will go to hell...which means all non-believers. But thats all.
I am not advocating it, merely acknowledging it as a fact.
Born in the wrong country. Born female.
The most vulnerable stoned for being a victim of rape... punished for the sin of men.
One of the most despicable acts ever committed.
God will be the final judge.
Nobody scapes judgement.
And that will be for eternity.

Yep, this Rashid Khalidi is a real menace. He got his Doctorate of Philosophy at a really radical university in England known as Oxford University. They teach all sorts of evil there. And he is using his radical learning in the most vile way. He is teaching it to others at Columbia University in the City of New York. What better way to indoctrinate more young people?
[...sarcasm off..]
Thanks!
I plan to vote for McCain so 13 year old kids in Somalia don''t get stoned again.
Heck what do we care about the national economy, if we can''t stop these senseless killings in other godforsaken lands!
So Vote for McCain/Palin.
Vote for more republican spending.
$10 TRILLION under Bush/Cheney.
McCain promises to top that with a $20 TRILLION debt in the next four years.
Thanks!

Agreed 100%,,, Most times youth is wasted on the young, you seem to be an exception.
Just as hard as it is to fight the Christian fanatics and Jewish fanatics....who have robbed this country of its civil rights in the name of security.

I am fairly certain that the US government does not a majority of Jewish and Christian fanatics. That said, the point that we have lost many civil rights, or at least had them diminished, is the result of folks who want to run this country for their own selfish ideological view points, that they want to shove down our throats.

"Your ''right'' to swing your fist stops where my nose begins"
Use your minds and lets not get stupid with answers on this one.
Rape is a world wide offense. Odd the men are capable of such a crime but too cowardly to admit it. And too rotten not to do it in the first place. Sounds more like an organized assasination of the key witness to telling who raped her - Not being paranoid, it is what it is.

The Father did not commit these acts. Mankind did and continue to quite in spite of The Father. It''s a choice. Stop making The Father responsible for what mankind decides to do. When given the gift of life, one would think that doing all to sustain and support that life for health, fun, love, intelligence would be a reasonable path to walk. But no. Continuously the choice keeps being NO. Psychotic.
There is no concrete proof that he was born in Hawaii, no birth records from a Hospital and no legal birth certificate. The birth certificate he has shown is not legally stamped. If you have proof otherwise lets us know.
Well there was the notice in the local newspaper. Does that mean anything?

Oh, yeah. Religion had NOTHING to do with this.
He/they may not be smart enough to know that, but the rest of the world is smart enough to refuse to tolerate it.

Rose:
God is an unprovable conjecture.
To wit: Man has created god to comfort himself and make himself feel important in a meaningless universe.
Honestly, if there is a god, it either cares not about us at all, or it is a vicious *** who delights in the torment of its creations.
That''s my take on the subject of god.
